Women’s Soccer Set For Pair Of Matches On Rudd This Week

Last Time Out
The Minutewomen went 2-0 last week as they picked up wins over UMass Lowell and at Boston University. UMass opened the week with a 3-0 win over the River Hawks thanks to three goals in less than six minutes of game action. Lauren Robles opened the scoring in the final moments of the first half before Karina Groff and Chandler Pedolzky scored in the first five minutes of the second half. The Minutewomen then went on the road Sunday and defeated BU 2-1. Bella Recinos tied the game up at 1-1 in the 34th-minute before Lauren Smida scored the game-winning goal just over a minute into the second half.
The Opponents
Bryant comes to Amherst with a 0-2 record having fallen to Binghamton 3-1 and to Maine 1-0. Merrimack holds an 0-3-1 record through four games and most recently lost to Atlantic 10 opponent St. Bonaventure 2-1 on Sunday at home.
Pediatric Cancer Awareness Game
The Minutewomen are lacing up for Pediatric Cancer and will wear yellow laces to raise awareness during their match against Bryant on Thursday. The first 50 fans will receive a yellow #Flagship rally towel. To donate, visit the link here.
Atlantic 10 Weekly Awards
The Minutewomen picked up a pair of Atlantic 10 weekly awards on Monday as Megan Olszewski was named the A-10 Defensive Player of the Week while Chandler Pedolzky was named the A-10 Rookie of the Week. Olszewski finished last week with 12 saves in just over 105 minutes in goal, beginning the week with four saves in 16 minutes of relief in the win over UMass Lowell. The sophomore finished the week with eight saves in a road win at BU. Pedolzky scored a goal and dished out two assists last week, assisting on the second goal before scoring the third on Thursday against UMass Lowell. The freshman forward wrapped up her week by assisting on the game-winning goal in the 47th-minute at BU.
Among League Leaders
The UMass offense ranks second in the Atlantic 10 in goals with seven and in goals per game with 1.75. Pedolzky is tied for the A-10 lead in assists with two and ranks second in points and third in points per game.
Looking Ahead
The pair of non-conference home games this week lead the Minutewomen into the final half of their non-conference schedule before conference play opens up on Sept. 19 against Duquesne. The Minutewomen are off for a week following Sunday's match against Merrimack before traveling to Northeastern on Sept. 12 for the final road non-conference game with the last non-conference match scheduled for Sept. 15 against Yale.
