Bella Recinos and Lauren Smida scored as the Minutewomen rallied back from down a goal.
BOSTON, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts women's soccer team went down early but scored two consecutive goals to come away with a 2-1 win on the road at Boston University of Sunday evening. The win marks the second straight for the Minutewomen (2-2 Overall) with four non-conference games remaining on the schedule.
Bella Recinos nearly opened up the scoring in the 12th-minute as the freshman found the ball on her right foot following a Karina Groff cross from down the right side for a shot that was saved away. Recinos went on to score from a similar spot in the 34th-minute to tie the game at 1-1 after Emily McCormack found Recinos in front of goal for a right-footed shot into the left side of goal.
The Minutewomen made an early push for the game-winning goal to start the second half as Lauren Smida slipped home a right footed shot into the right side of goal after Chandler Pedolzky set her up with a through ball from 10 yards outside of the penalty area.
Megan Olszewski stopped eight shots for the Minutewomen in her first start of the season as the Terrier put nine of their 13 shot attempts on target. Offensively, UMass attempted 10 shots with four on target led by a pair of shots from Karina Groff that both found frame.
The Minutewomen return to Rudd Field on Thursday for a 4 p.m. matchup against Bryant and will remain home through the weekend as they play host to Merrimack on Sunday afternoon.
