Minutewomen Earn Shutout Win Over UMass Lowell In Home Opener

The Minutewomen scored three goals in less than six minutes of action to come away with the 3-0 win.
AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts women's soccer team scored three goals in less than six minutes of game time on Thursday as they came away with a 3-0 shutout win over UMass Lowell in the home opener at Rudd Field.
Lauren Robles opened up the scoring in the final moments of the second half, beating the UMass Lowell keeper to the left side of goal off an Olivia Goulsbury assist in the 45th-minute to put the Minutewomen ahead 1-0 heading into the halftime break.
The Minutewomen came back with two more goals in the first five minutes of the second half, first with a Karina Groff goal off an assist from Chandler Pedolzky in the 48th-minute to extend the lead to two goals. Pedolzky got in on the scoring just over two minutes later, following a shot from Bella Recinos that was deflected over to the right side of goal for Pedolzky to put home for her second goal of the season in the 50th-minute.
UMass held strong defensively all evening on their way to finishing with nine saves in the shutout win. Bella Mendoza earned the start in goal and finished with five saves in nearly 75 minutes of work before Megan Olszewski entered in relief for the final 15 minutes and came up with four saves. Olszewski's second save of the day denied a great scoring opportunity for the River Hawks as she turned away a breaking Callisste Brookshire at her right post in the 80th-minute.
The Minutemen head back out on the road Sunday to take on Boston University at 4 p.m. before returning to Rudd Field a week from today to host Bryant.
