The Week Ahead
The Minutewomen play host to UMass Lowell in the first home match of the season at Rudd Field on Thursday at 4 p.m. UMass continues its non-conference schedule this weekend with a road matchup at Boston University on Sunday at 4 p.m.
The Opponents
The River Hawks come to Amherst with a 1-0-1 overall record after defeating Holy Cross 2-0 in the season opener before playing to a 1-1 draw at Boston University on Monday night. Ioanna Papatheodorou leads UMass Lowell with a pair of goals. Boston University opened its season with a 2-0 win at Northeastern before playing to a draw against the River Hawks.
Last Time Out
UMass fell in a pair of road matches last week, opening the season at No. 10-ranked Penn State before falling to Boston College on Monday. The Minutewomen struck first at Penn State with a Chandler Pedolzky goal in the 50th-minute of the contest. At BC on Monday, the Minutewomen responded to a two-goal deficit with a Lauren Smida goal in the 83rd-minute and had another scoring opportunity to tie that was turned away late.
Youth Movement
The 2021 Minutewomen features 22 combined freshmen and sophomores made up of 10 freshmen and 12 sophomores. Through two games this season, five freshmen have made two starts while three sophomores have started both games.
