Minutewomen Strike First, Fall At #10 Penn State

Freshman Chandler Pedolzky scored her first career goal for the Minutewomen in the 50th-minute.
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The University of Massachusetts women's soccer team struck first with a Chandler Pedolzky goal in the 50th-minute before No. 10 Penn State scored three unanswered as the Nittany Lions came away with a 3-1 win at Jeffrey Park on Thursday evening.
Pedolzky scored her first collegiate goal to put the Minutewomen ahead 1-0 in the early moments of the second half, slotting home a goal past Penn State keeper Katherine Asman and into the bottom left corner.
Penn State answered with the equalizer a minute later with a Sam Coffey goal before Ally Schlegel scored in the 57th-minute and Payton Linnehan in the 61st-minute to put the Nittany Lions up 3-1.
UMass finished the game with seven shots and four on target led by Pedolzky's four shots with two on frame. Fellow freshmen Juliana Ryan and Bella Recinos each added a shot on target for the Minutewomen.
The Nittany Lions put nine of their 20 shot attempts on target. UMass goalkeeper Bella Mendoza stopped a game-high six shots on the night, including five in the second half as Penn State attempted 11 shots in the final 45.
The Minutewomen return to action this Sunday when they head to Boston College for a 1 p.m. matchup against the Eagles.
