The Minutewomen open up the 2021 regular season on Thursday evening at Penn State before heading to Boston College on Sunday.

Opening Week
UMass opens up its 2021 season with a pair of road contests at Big Ten opponent No. 10-ranked Penn State on Thursday at 7 p.m. and at ACC opponent Boston College on Sunday at 1 p.m. Thursdays game will be available on Big Ten Network+ while Sunday's match at Boston College will be on ACC Network Extra.

The Opponents
No. 10-ranked Penn State finished the spring season with a 12-3-1 overall record to earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament, where they reached the third-round before falling to No. 1-seeded Florida State. Boston College finished the spring with a 3-10-1 record and open up their regular season on Thursday afternoon at Iona.

Spring Season
The Minutewomen posted a 6-5-1 overall record during the spring season with a 5-2-1 record in Atlantic 10 play to earn the No. 2-seed for the conference tournament. UMass reached the semifinals in the A-10 Championship and fell to No. 3-seeded Davidson in Saint Louis.

Key Returners
UMass returns a trio of players who started all 12 games during the spring season in Ella Curry, Serena Ahmed, and Fiona Kane. Curry ranked second on the team in shots on goal while Kane logged the second-most minutes on the team with 1103. All three ranked amongst the top-four on the UMass team in minutes played. Defender Hannah Peric and Lauren Bonavita also return for the Minutewomen after each putting home a goal last year to go along with a pair of assists.

Youth Movement
The Minutewomen have 22 underclassmen on a 2021 roster that features 12 sophomores and 10 freshmen. Of the 10 returning sophomores that were freshmen during last season's spring campaign, six earned starts with a combined 41 starts for the group.
