Support The Men's Lacrosse Program during 2021 #UMassGives
- 2021 #UMassGives runs from Thurs., April 29 through Fri., April 30 and UMass men's lacrosse as a goal of eclipsing 150 donors during the two-day event.
- To those who have already supported us this year, thank you for your donation. Please consider another small gift to participate during this initiative, or encourage an alum, teammate or friend to join this year's effort.
- Over these two days, please consider a donation in increments of 43. We know the Power of 43 is always with us, and gifts of $43, $43.43 or $430.43 are all ways to symbolically show that strength.
- All gifts, no matter the amount, play a key role in the team's success both academically and athletically.
- Donations will be accepted here throughout the two-day event.
Been A While
- UMass men's lacrosse ended a 368-day streak between games played when it defeated Fairfield, 13-9 on Sun., March 14.
- This is the longest gap between games in program history, which dates back to 1954.
- Massachusetts last started a season on or after March 14 in 1995 when it opened at No. 1 Virginia on March 19.
- The 1995 season was current 27th-year head coach Greg Cannella's first at the helm of the program.
Rolling Squad Deep
- Massachusetts began the season with 49 student-athletes on its roster.
- The 49 student-athletes represent the largest roster in program history.
- It includes six graduate students, seven seniors, nine juniors, 13 sophomores and 14 freshmen.
Senior Day
- Massachusetts hosted Senior Day for its the classes of 2020 and 2021 prior to the game against Towson with a short, on-field ceremony
- UMass honored the seven members of its Class of 2020: Cameron Carpenter, Charlie O'Brien, Dan O'Brien, Billy Philpott, Devin Spencer, Jackson Suboch and Jeff Trainor who were unable to have their Senior Day ceremony in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Six of the seven returned to compete as graduate students in 2021, including Carpenter, Charlie O'Brien, Philpott, Spencer, Suboch and Trainor.
- Massachusetts also recognized its seven-member Class of 2021: Joe Casucci, Chris Connolly, Kevin Cutinella, Sam Eisenstadt, Clayton Proctor, Jack Siebert and Kevin Tobin. The Class of 2021 retains an extra year of eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic and members may opt to return for competition as graduate students in 2022.
Rocketing To Triple Digits
- Senior midfielder Kevin Tobin eclipsed 100 points for his career in the 21-14 win at Fairfield (4/24) thanks to a career day.
- Tobin began the game four points shy of triple digits and put in three goals and assisted on six more for the program's first 9+ point outing since 2013.
- He won CAA Player of the Week and earned a spot on the USILA Team of the Week in recognition of his nine-point outing at Fairfield
- Tobin enters the game at Delaware on Fri., April 30 with 105 career points via 51 goals and 54 assists.
- Tobin is the second active midfielder with 100 or more career points (Jeff Trainor, 145 points).
- It marks the first season in program history where UMass sported multiple 100-point scorers in the midfield.
Caused And Effected
- Massachusetts graduate student close defenseman Jackson Suboch has 48 caused turnovers in his career, which ranks Suboch eighth all-time in program history.
- Suboch is three away from passing Kyle Karaska (50; 2013-16) in seventh all-time.
- Reaching 50 caused turnovers in his career would make Suboch one of only eight all-time to cause as many, joining Isaac Paparo (95; 2016-19), Jack Reid (76; 2005-06), Tom Celentani (71; 2009-12), Diogo Godoi (64; 2006-10), Dan Whipple (60; 2004-07), Jake Smith (54; 2010-13) and Karaska.
- Caused turnovers became an official NCAA statistic prior to the 2005 season. Reid's career total only reflects his junior and senior seasons and does not account for any caused in 2003 or 2004.
