THE OPENING TIP: THE MASSACHUSETTS-FORDHAM PREVIEW
• It's the end of a three-game home stand, and the finale of a four-game stretch in eight days as UMass women's basketball welcomes Atlantic 10 foe Fordham to the Mullins Center on Sun., Jan. 10. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+, with Jay Burnham (PxP) and Cam Sibert (color) on the call. Nick McGahan and Scott Wiktorowski will co-produce the broadcast.

• The Minutewomen have been victorious in six of their last seven games dating back to Thu., Dec. 3, and have taken two out of three during a packed run of A-10 action this week. The squad returned from La Salle with a 78-61 victory (Jan. 3) and also knocked off Davidson by a 82-61 score (Jan. 8) in Amherst. Only a 48-47 setback to Rhode Island on Jan. 5 sits in the loss column.

• Friday's win over Davidson was the result of a total team effort for 40 minutes. Finishing with five players scoring double figures, the squad trailed for just 43 seconds in the game and was paced by a career-high 27-point effort from Sydney Taylor. Destiney Philoxy (13 points, 11 assists) added her first career double-double, and Philoxy's 11 dimes were not only a career-high but the most by an Atlantic 10 player in the last two seasons.

• The Davidson win also saw the season debut of Maeve Donnelly as Donnelly returned from injury, while Danielle Sanderlin appeared for the first time as a Minutewoman. Sanderlin was granted immediate eligibility in December, resulting from a blanket transfer waiver granted by the NCAA Division I Council–an announcement welcomed across college basketball.

• Philoxy continues position herself as one of the nation's leading ball distributors. Philoxy (8.2 apg) ranks second in Division I in assists per game and has contributed eight or more dimes in seven games this season. Only Rachel Hakes of Fairfield (8.8 apg) sits ahead of the Queens, New York native in the Division I rankings.

• Senior Sam Breen recorded four straight double-doubles from Dec. 10-Jan. 5, and was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week on Jan. 4. The Gibsonia, Pennsylvania product is posting team-highs of 19.2 points and 9.1 boards per night, with her scoring output ranked third in the A-10. She had 11 points and 11 rebounds in the Rhode Island game on Jan. 5.

• The Minutewomen will get a breather of sorts after Sunday's tilt, with the team next in action on Fri., Jan. 15 at VCU.
