Jay Burnham

Jay Burnham is entering his fourth season as the Voice of the Minutemen in 2022-23. The Shelburne Falls Massachusetts native is the primary play-by-play broadcaster for Massachusetts football and men’s basketball on both radio and TV. Burnham also broadcasts games on NESN for the Worcester Red Sox and has an extensive resume that includes play-by-play broadcasting for VCU, Virginia Tech, William and Mary, Dartmouth and Longwood. A two-time award winner in the play-by-play field, Burnham’s background also includes a variety of stops along the way in Minor League Baseball, including a six-year stint as the voice of the Richmond Flying Squirrels. Burnham is the host of the UMass Sports Insider TV show on NESN and operates within the Athletics Department on content creation and storytelling.
Prior to his return to the Pioneer Valley, Burnham spent the previous six years in Richmond, Virginia as a freelance TV play-by-play broadcaster for men’s and women’s basketball, football, baseball, volleyball and soccer at VCU, Virginia Tech, William & Mary and Longwood University.
A 16-year veteran of Minor League Baseball, Burnham has been widely recognized in the baseball broadcasting field. Burnham was the recipient of Ballpark Digests’ 2011 Minor League Baseball Broadcaster of the Year Award as well as Baseball America's Best Broadcaster Award in 2016. The lefty careened his way through America’s Pastime with stints behind the mic for the Hagerstown Suns (2003-2004), Pensacola Pelicans (2005-2007), Asheville Tourists (2008-2009), Trenton Thunder (2010-2012) and the Richmond Flying Squirrels (2013-18).
Burnham grew up in Shelburne Falls Massachusetts and attended Mohawk Trail Regional High School. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree of Communications from Elon University and also studied at Greenfield Community College, Hawaii Pacific University and Kansai Gaidai in Japan.
