May 07, 2026 | Women's Basketball
CHICAGO – Former University of Massachusetts women's basketball guard Sydney Taylor (Long Island, N.Y.) has signed a WNBA contract with the Chicago Sky. After singing a training camp contract with the organization on April 13, Taylor has made the 12-person official roster, announced by the organization on Thursday.
Taylor becomes the third Minutewoman to make the league, joining Jennifer Butler and Melissa Gurile, and the first since Butler was drafted by the Cleveland Rockers in 2003.
During her four seasons at Massachusetts, Taylor was a standout for the Minutewomen, being named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Team in 2023 (First) and 2022 (Second), Atlantic 10 All-Championship Team (2022, 2023), Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team (2023) and she was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week four times. Taylor helped lead the Minutewomen to the 2022 A10 Championship and 2023 A10 Regular Season title.
"Sydney Taylor making a WNBA roster is an achievement to celebrate!" said women's basketball head coach Mike Leflar. "Her years of hard work and self-belief are being rewarded at the highest level of our game. Congratulations to the entire Taylor family as well, their support is unwavering."
Appearing in 107 games and starting in 90, Taylor finished her impressive Minutewoman career in eleventh place all-time in scoring with 1465 points and ranks second in program history in three pointers made with 250. She ended her career averaging 13.7 points and 3.8 rebounds while connecting on 2.3 triples per game. During her senior campaign in 2022-2023, Taylor averaged 16.1 points a night, scoring double figures in 27 games, and 11 games with 20 or more points.
"Sydney's game grew exponentially during her time at UMass," Leflar said. "She was always in the gym. Shooting, learning something new, and just getting better. All of UMass Basketball, past and present, are proud to call Sydney an alumna. We are fortunate to have been a part of her journey."
Taylor played the 2023-24 season with the University of Louisville, averaging 10.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists. Most recently, Taylor competed for Polish Club MB Zagelbie Sosnowiec, where she averaged 22.8 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.4 steals while shooting 45.8 percent from the field and 38.6 percent from behind the arc.
Chicago finished the 2025 season with a 10-34 record and were sixth place in the WNBA Eastern Conference.
