The Minutewomen would maintain their two-goal edge until turning it up in the midway point of the first half with five of the game's next six goals to go up 10-4 with 11:18 until the break with goals from five different scorers. Ohio State would close the deficit to as little as four before halftime before it was UMass again pulling away late to take a 14-8 advantage at halftime with a goal from Muscella with 4:45 left in the half.
UMass kept the pressure on as the second half began, scoring the first two goals of the half from Cerasi and Anderson to give the Minutewomen their largest lead of the afternoon at 17-8 seven minutes into the half. Ohio State attempted to stay in it with consecutive goals from Cai Martin and Janie Crowley to make it 19-13 with 13 minutes left, but Massachusetts proved to be too much as Muscella and Julia Smith put UMass up eight late before running out the clock.
The Minutewomen will be back in action on Saturday when UMass travels to Connecticut for 1 p.m. matchup with the Huskies.
