No. 19 Minutewomen Run Past UMass Lowell, 21-8

February 24, 2020 | Women's Lacrosse

Connaughton, Croke and Dotsikas scored four first half goals apiece to lead UMass

AMHERST, Mass. – Haley Connaughton, Stephanie Croke and Emma Dotsikas scored four goals apiece in the first half alone to set the tone for the No. 19 UMass women's lacrosse team (2-1), who bolted out to an early lead and never looked back in a 21-8 victory over UMass Lowell (1-3) on Monday afternoon at Cushing Field.

Connaughton led the way with eight points (four goals, four assists) on the afternoon, closely followed by Dotsikas (four goals, three assists) and Croke. Brinley Anderson, Andrea Meincke and Julia Smith added two goals each.

Lauren Hiller made five saves for the Minutewomen in her third start of the season before giving way to Gina Carroll (three saves) early in the second half, while Caitlyn Petro (nine) and Amy Moreau (six) paced Massachusetts on the draw throughout the game.

Izzy Liquori, Hana Caster and Alex Palermo each scored twice for the River Hawks, who received 21 saves from goalkeeper Madison Grazidei.

Croke, Dotsikas and Connaughton got the Minutewomen off to a fast start, scoring two goals apiece in the first 13 minutes of the game to establish control early with a 6-1 advantage.

After the River Hawks' Liquori followed goals from Smith and Dotsikas to make it 8-2 with less than 12 minutes to go until halftime, Massachusetts rattled off seven of the final nine goals of the half to take a commanding 15-4 lead at recess with goals coming from Olivia Muscella, Connaughton (2), Anderson, Dotsikas and Croke (2).

It was more of the same in the second half as Kelly Marra and Anderson each found the back of the net in the first three minutes before the Minutewomen worked the clock down in the final 20 minutes.

UMass will be back in action on Sunday when the Minutewomen travel to Milton, Ga. to take on Ohio State at 12 p.m.
