Haley Connaughton and Kaitlyn Cerasi had six points apiece for the Minutewomen
AMHERST, Mass. – Haley Connaughton (four goals, two assists) and Kaitlyn Cerasi (three goals, three assists) had six points apiece, but No. 22 Dartmouth (1-0) received a combined nine goals from Ellie Carson (five goals, one assist) and Sophia Turchetta (four goals, one assist) to knock off the No. 13 UMass women's lacrosse team (1-1) on Saturday afternoon at Garber Field, 15-11.
With the Minutewomen leading by one at the halftime, Dartmouth rattled off six of the first seven goals of the second half to open up a 12-8 advantage with 17 minutes to play. UMass would bring it within three midway through the half, but Turchetta added two goals in the final nine minutes to put the game out of reach.
Kiera Vrindten made 12 saves on the afternoon for Dartmouth, while Lauren Hiller had six saves.
It was a back and forth battle in the opening 30 minutes as the teams exchanged goals, with Cerasi and Connaughton doing the damage for the Minutewomen to bring the game level at four with 14 minutes to play in the half before Olivia Muscella put the hosts up by one with 10:40 before the break.
Big Green goals from Turchetta and Carson put Dartmouth up 6-5 with 8:43 left in the first half before Emma Dotsikas and Haley Connaughton closed with the final two goals of the half to give UMass a 7-6 lead.
Dartmouth was in control from there, which outscored UMass 9-5 overal the final 30 minutes with Carson leading the way with four of her five goals on the day.
UMass will be back in action on Feb. 24 when the Minutewomen travel to UMass Lowell for a 3:30 p.m. opening draw.
