Men’s Soccer Falls On The Road At Bryant, 2-1

James McPherson scored in the 53rd-minute for his third goal of the season.
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The University of Massachusetts men's soccer team allowed a pair of unanswered goals down the stretch as they fell at Bryant on Tuesday afternoon to the Bulldogs, 2-1. The Minutemen (4-2-0 Overall) pulled ahead on a James McPherson goal early in the second half before the Bulldogs answered with the eventual game-winning goal in the 75th-minute.
UMass attempted eight shots with three on target through the first 45 minutes of play, beginning with an early Graham Brenner chance that found the sophomore heading a ball with some pace towards goal off the Minuteman corner kick that was eventually saved away and cleared by the Bryant defense. Logan Brown nearly broke through for the first goal of the night in the 31st-minute on a header that skimmed off the post and out for a goal kick.
Marvyn Dorchin finished with four saves on 11 Bryant shot attempts for the Minutemen in goal, picking up his first of the afternoon on a Bulldog counterattack that saw the UMass backline recover in time to force a tough attempt towards goal.
McPherson gave UMass its 1-0 lead with the first goal in the 53rd-minute, sliding a shot by the defender to find the back of the net on a Chandler O'Dwyer free kick from near midfield. McPherson's goal marked the third of his season to rank tied for the most on the team.
Bryant answered with consecutive goals to pull ahead 2-1 nearly 15 minutes later, knotting the game at 1-1 on a Charles DeSantis free kick from just outside of the 18-yard box that deflected off a UMass defender in the 67th-minute. The Bulldogs scored the game-winning goal on a counterattack in the 75th-minute that came off the foot of Alex DaCosta.
The Minutemen return home to Rudd Field on Saturday to take on UMass Lowell at 1 p.m.
