Graham Brenner scored twice to lead five Minutemen scorers as UMass netted six in the final 45.
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – The University of Massachusetts men's soccer team put home six goals in the second half on their way to a 6-0 win over Central Connecticut State on Saturday evening. The six goals marked the most for the Minutemen (4-1-0 Overall) this season and the most since a 7-1 UMass win over St. Bonaventure in 2002.
Graham Brenner broke the scoreless contest in the 62nd-minute with his second goal of the season, finding the back of the net on the first UMass shot of the half and fourth of the game. Brenner went on to score his second of the night in the 86th-minute to give UMass a six-goal advantage.
Marvyn Dorchin finished with a game-high four saves during 90 minutes in goal, stopping a pair of Blue Devil shots in the opening 21 minutes as the home team attempted five shots before the halfway point of the opening half. Dorchin came up with his fourth save of the night just after Brenner's goal in the 64th minute to keep the game at 1-0 before consecutive UMass goals in a two-minute span put the Minutemen up 3-0. The shutout marked the fourth of the season for the junior goalkeeper, having allowed just one goal in 450 minutes of action.
Tyler Mann stretched the lead to two goals in the 68th-minute on his first career goal as the sophomore took advantage of a CCSU turnover, finding himself in position inside of the box for a goal to give UMass a 2-0 lead.
The Minutemen needed just 33 seconds before they earned their third goal, coming off a Logan Brown goal after Christian Labeck forced CCSU's keeper into a save that deflected and found Brown's foot for his second goal of the year.
James McPherson stretched the lead to five goals in the 82nd-minute, scoring his second goal of the season before Harrison Tognela found Ryan Levay 28 seconds later for Levay's first collegiate goal to bring the count to 5-0.
UMass wraps up its three-game road trip Tuesday afternoon with a 3 p.m. matchup at Bryant before coming home to Rudd Field to take on UMass Lowell on Saturday.
