University of Massachusetts Women's Lacrosse Preview |
• After an 18-8 win over Marist at Garber Field last Wednesday, the UMass women's lacrosse team kicks off a four-game road swing starting this week with a pair of games in DeLand, Fla., against Ohio State (Monday, March 11) and Niagara (Wednesday, March 13) during Spring Break for the Minutewomen. Both games will be played at the Stetson University Athletic Training Center with opening draws set for Noon.
• UMass picked up a 14-13 win over Ohio State, led by former UMass head coach Alexis Venechanos, last year at Albright College in Reading, Pa. It will be the first ever meeting between UMass and Niagara on the lacrosse field.
• On the year, Kiley Anderson leads the Minutewomen with 27 points (25 goals, 2 assists) and 34 draw controls. Kaitlyn Cerasi is just behind with 24 points thanks to a team-best 15 assists. Haley Connaughton is just behind with 19 points on nine goals and 10 assists.
• Anderson's 155 career draw controls rank fourth all-time in UMass history, while her 121 goals are tied for 10th most. Cerasi's 80 assists are the sixth-most in program history. Goalie Lauren Hiller's 30 wins are the third most for a career, while her 305 saves rank eighth overall.
• One of the most winningest programs in NCAA women's lacrosse over the last nine years with 145 victories (including this year), UMass has reached the NCAA Tournament in nine of the previous 10 years with the Minutewomen reaching the second round in 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2017. In 2016, UMass reached the quarterfinals for the first time since 1984.
• Since 2011, UMass is 70-5 at home between Garber Field and McGuirk Stadium as its home venues. Since moving back to Garber Field in 2016, the Minutewomen are 24-2 in the stadium with the two loses both coming from Boston College.
