| University of Massachusetts Women's Lacrosse Preview |
• It's a battle of the top Bay State women's lacrosse programs on Thursday as No. 1 Boston College visits Massachusetts at Garber Field. Admission is free to all with the opening draw set for 3 PM.
• This will be the four straight year UMass and BC have met on the lacrosse field after an eight-year hiatus in the all-time series. The programs began the series in 1981 before falling dormant in 1998. The Eagles are 15-8 all-time against the Minutewomen.
• The two squads share several ties. UMass assistant coach Zoe Ochoa was one of the top all-time goalies for the Eagles capping her career with a dramatic run as NCAA Championship finalists in 2017. Boston College head coach Acacia Walker-Weinstein was associate head coach for the Minutewomen from 2009-2010. Current senior attack Kiley Anderson began her collegiate career at Boston College in 2015 before transferring to UMass the next season where she has been a standout for the Minutewomen.
• Kiley Anderson scored a game-high six goals and Gina Carroll made 11 saves in her first career start last Friday night as UMass opened the 2019 campaign with a 24-4 win at Bryant. The 24 goals are tied as the second-most for a single game in program history. The Minutewomen had 10 different goal scorers in the contest including Hannah Palau who had four, while Haley Connaughton and Cassidy Doster each tallied three. Connaughton added three assists, just one shy of Kaitlyn Cerasi who had four on the night. In addition to her six goals, Anderson added a game-high seven draw controls, while Connaughton added three groundballs and two caused turnovers.
• One of the most winningest programs in NCAA women's lacrosse over the last nine years with 143 victories (including this year), UMass has reached the NCAA Tournament in nine of the previous 10 years with the Minutewomen reaching the second round in 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2017. In 2016, UMass reached the quarterfinals for the first time since 1984. Â
