Offensive Outburst As Women's Lax Opens Year With 24-4 Win At Bryant

Minutewomen notch second-most goals for a game in program history.
SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Kiley Anderson scored a game-high six goals and Gina Carroll made 11 saves in her first career start as the UMass women's lacrosse team opened the 2019 campaign with a 24-4 win at Bryant on Friday night. The 24 goals are tied as the second-most for a single game in program history.
UMass (1-0) had 10 different goal scorers in the contest including Hannah Palau who had four, while Haley Connaughton and Cassidy Doster each tallied three. Connaughton added three assists, just one shy of Kaitlyn Cerasi who had four on the night. In addition to her six goals, Anderson added a game-high seven draw controls, while Connaughton added three groundballs and two caused turnovers.
Carroll made her 11 saves while facing 19 shots and also posted three groundballs and a caused turnover.
Bryant (0-1) had four players tally goals for the Bulldogs, while Brianna Blatter made seven saves on 39 shots faced.
The Minutewomen won 18-of-29 draw controls and forced 20 turnovers in the contest. UMass scored the opening 10 goals of the game as the defense held Bryant scoreless until the 17 minute mark of the opening stanza. The Maroon and White went into the intermission with a 17-3 lead after Stephanie Croke scored with four seconds to go.
UMass will return to action next Thursday, Feb. 21 against No. 1 Boston College at Garber Field. The opening draw is set for 3 PM and attendance is free.
