Balanced Effort Gives Women's Lax 21-8 Win At George Washington

Kaitlyn Cerasi, Hannah Burnett each net six points in win.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Hannah Burnett scored five goals and added an assist, while Kaitlyn Cerasi had three goals and three helpers to lead the UMass women's lacrosse team to a 21-8 win at George Washington on Sunday afternoon. The win improves UMass to 11-3 overall and a perfect 6-0 in league play. The Atlantic 10 victory improves UMass' NCAA record to 60 consecutive conference wins.

Along with Burnett and Cerasi, Holly Turner notched eight points, just one shy of her career-high, with two goals and six assists which did tie her career-best mark. She extended her program record for career assists with 127 over the last four years. Kiley Anderson and Haley Connaughton each tallied three goals as well to lead the offense.

Lauren Hiller earned the win in cage making three first half saves while Sam Walters played the second half with a pair of stops.

Jocelyn Donohue led the Colonials (9-5, 2-4 A-10) with two goals while six other players record a goal each. Jenna Oler made 16 saves in 52 minutes to take the loss, while Adele Wise made three in just over eight minutes of action.

For the day, UMass held a 49-to-18 advantage in shots and a 31-to-17 edge in groundballs. The Minutewomen also forced 27 Colonial turnovers compared to just 14 turnovers for UMass.

The Minutewomen started the game with five straight goals and added another five-goal run late in the opening stanza to take an 11-4 lead into halftime. The Colonials scored the first two goals of the second half, but UMass notched six of the next seven goals to build their lead out to 17-7 with 10:05 to go.

UMass closed the game with four straight goals in the final seven minutes including all three from Connaughton.

The road swing will continue next week for the Minutewomen as they head to Richmond and VCU next Friday and Saturday.
