Battle Of A-10 Leaders As Women's Lax Heads To Richmond

Minutewomen face Spiders on Friday, VCU on Sunday.

AMHERST, Mass. - It's one of the biggest weekends of the Atlantic 10 regular-season as the UMass women's lacrosse team heads to Richmond, Virginia, for a pair of league matches with postseason implications. Friday night will pit both the undefeated Minutewomen against unbeaten Richmond at 4 PM before UMass then head's across town on Sunday to take on VCU (Noon) with the Rams currently tied for third in the league standings.

With three games remaining in the regular season, both UMass and Richmond have already secured spots in the Atlantic 10 Tournament. Friday's meeting will most likely determine the regular-season league champion and the No. 1 seed.

The Minutewomen enter the weekend with an 11-3 overall record and a 6-0 mark in league play. UMass holds an NCAA record 60-game win streak for consecutive league victories. The Spiders enter the weekend with a 12-2 overall record and are also 6-0 against A-10 foes. VCU is tied with Saint Joseph's for third in the standings with a 4-2 mark in league play and are 6-8 overall.

UMass leads the A-10 in scoring offense averaging 16 goals per game, but the Spiders hold the league's top defense allowing just 7.71 goals per outing. 

Holly Turner continues her outstanding senior campaign with a team-best 66 points on 31 goals and 35 assists. The attack broke the career record for assists last weekend and now has 127 through 77 games. She continues to rank second in career points with 253 and is tied for 8th in goals scored with 126 through four seasons. Her 35 assists this season rank 6th for a single-year in program history and she has a shot at breaking Erika Eipp's single-season mark of 55 assists in 2016. Turner now holds three of the top single-season marks in assists.

Just behind Turner is fellow senior attack Hannah Burnett who has 58 points on a team-best 46 goals alongside 12 assists. Burnett has moved up to sixth all-time in career goals with 141 and is on pace to crack the single-season top-10 list with her next three goals. She also has a shot at setting a new single-season mark for goals scored which is currently held by Sam Rush who scored 67 in 2014.

Kaitlyn Cerasi and Kiley Anderson have both reached the 40-point plateau for the season. Cerasi has a balanced 25 goals and 23 assists, while Anderson has 37 goals and five assists to go with a team-high 84 draw controls.

Stephanie Croke rounds out the top scorers with a career-best 30 points on 10 goals and 20 assists. Overall, the Minutewomen have been extremely balanced this year with nine players in double figures for points and 19 who have recorded points.

Defensively, the Minutewomen have been anchored by Kasey Keane who's 32 caused turnovers are fourth-best in the Atlantic 10 and tied for the sixth-most in a single-season at UMass. The Minutewomen are ranked fourth defensively in the league allowing 10.86 goals per game, however, UMass ranks first in league play giving up just 7.83 goals per contest.

Both games this weekend will be streamed live on the Atlantic 10 Digital Network. UMass will return home next Saturday, April 28 to host Duquesne in the regular-season finale. Following the contest against the Dukes at Garber Field, the Minutewomen will honor their senior class in a special post-game ceremony.
