Winningest coach in program history led Minutewomen to A-10 title, NCAA Tournament in 2017.

AMHERST, Mass. - After leading the UMass tennis program to the 2017 Atlantic 10 Championship title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament, Judy Dixon was announced on Monday as the Wilson/ITA Northeast Region Coach of the Year. The honor comes in Dixon's 25th and final season as head coach of the Minutewomen as she announces she will retire at the conclusion of the season.

The 2017 campaign marked the second time in program history that UMass has claimed the league's championship title and reached the NCAA Tournament. Dixon also coached the previous team, 2001, to have the distinction. Following the A-10 Championship, Dixon was named the league's Coach of the Year for the sixth time in her career - the second most for any coach in A-10 women's tennis history.

With a final record of 12-8 on the year, Dixon will step down with a record of 316-227 at UMass. Overall, the legendary figure is 356-241 in 28 years of collegiate coaching between UMass and three years at Yale.

After winning the league title, Dixon saw four players earn Atlantic 10 honors this past season including three first-team selections and the selection of Janja Kovacevic as the A-10 Rookie of the Year.

A total of 60 players have earned All-Atlantic 10 or All-Academic Team honors under Dixon including two Performers of the Year, six Rookies of the Year, and one A-10 Student-Athlete of the Year.

Her coaching tenure at UMass began in 1993 as the head of both the men's and women's tennis programs - a role she continued until 2001. In her time coaching the men's team, she posted a 95-90 record leading the Minutemen to the 1996-97 New England Championship title.

Dixon graduated from the University of Southern California with a bachelor's degree in psychology in 1973. A three-year letterwinner for the Trojans, she played both first singles and doubles at USC. The 1967 Junior National Champion claimed the 1973 Pacific Eight doubles title. Prior to coming to UMass, Dixon served as the Coordinator of Women's Athletics and head tennis coach at Yale University from 1973-76. She compiled a 40-14 record at Yale, leading the Elis to the 1976 Ivy League championship.

In April 2006, Dixon was honored by The Yale Club of New York City followed two years later by an induction into the USTA New England Hall of Fame.
