Tennis Sweeps MAC Weekly Honors

AMHERST, Mass. – Senior Ella Faessler was named the Mid-American Conference Singles Player of the Week, while Faessler and graduate student Renata Farima tabbed MAC co-Doubles Team of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday evening. Faessler earns the Singles Player of the Week honor for the second time this season, while the duo received the weekly honor for the second time this year.

As the Minutewomen picked up a 6-1 victory over Buffalo, Faessler set the tone for singles action for UMass. Faessler took down her opponent at court No. 1, 6-2, 6-1, to secure the first singles point of the day and was the first off the courts.

The win at No. 1 singles improved Faessler to a 7-1 record in MAC play and 13-4 overall in the position.

Faessler and Farima clinched the doubles point for UMass to aid in the 6-1 victory over Buffalo on Sunday. In a close, 7-6 match, the duo was able to win the tiebreak 10-3 over their opponents.

The No.1-seede Minutewomen prepare to face No. 4 Miami (OH) on Saturday, April 25, in the Semifinals of the MAC Championships at 10 a.m., in Oxford, Ohio, at the Miami Tennis Courts.
