SIU Edwardsville, No. 24 Baylor Get By Minutewomen

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts softball fell to SIU Edwardsville and No. 24 Baylor on Saturday. The Minutewomen (2-7) will wrap play in Waco, Texas facing SIUE or Saint Francis at 9:30 a.m. CT/ 10:30a.m. ET on Sunday.

Game One
UMass fell to SIU Edwardsville, 8-2, in its first game of the day on Saturday. Junior right-handed pitcher Meg Colleran (1-4) started the game and pitched 5.1 innings, allowing six runs. Freshman Quinn Breidenbach came on in relief, throwing 1.2 innings and allowing two runs.

Senior Tara Klee and sophomore Kaitlyn Stavinoha were both credited with RBI. Freshmen Madison Gimpl and Candace Denis scored the Minutewomen's two runs.

Game Two
The Minutewomen suffered a 3-2 loss to No. 24 Baylor in game two on Saturday. Freshman Candace Denis (0-2) started on the mound for the Minutewomen and pitched six innings for the complete game. She struck out five batters and allowed one earned run.

UMass was able to fend off Baylor until the bottom of the third when a fielding error gave the Bears a 1-0 lead. Baylor posted another two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

In the top of the sixth inning, UMass answered back with a two-run rally. A single by sophomore Kaitlyn Stavinoha drove in sophomore Erin Stacevicz and Denis, cutting Baylor's lead to one run.
