No. 25 Men’s Soccer To Take On Fordham For Senior Day

UMass will wrap up the regular season at Rudd Field, where they are unbeaten with a 9-0-1 record

AMHERST, Mass.The No. 25-ranked University of Massachusetts men's soccer team will take on Fordham on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Rudd Field for Senior Day with a chance to secure their first Atlantic 10 regular season title since the 2008 season. The Minutemen (12-2-3 Overall, 6-0-1 A-10) will look to remain unbeaten on their home field with a 9-0-1 record this season as they wrap up the regular season slate on an 11-match unbeaten streak.
 
The Minutemen have outscored their opponents 23-6 on their home field this season through 10 matches played and are 19-6-5 over their last 30 games dating back to the 2016 campaign.
 
UMass defeated George Mason 4-1 on Saturday evening on the road to stay at the top of the A-10 standings heading into the final game of the season against Fordham (10-4-2 Overall, 4-2-1 A-10). Freshman Davis Smith scored the opening goal of the game in the 23rd-minute before going on to assist on Matthew Mooney's goal early in the half as he was named to the College Soccer News Team of the Week. Smith leads UMass this season in goals scored with nine and is tied for the team lead in assists with five for 23 points.
 
Alex DeSantis recorded an assist on Smith's goal before scoring his own just under 13 minutes later to put UMass ahead 4-1. DeSantis is tied for the team lead in assists this season with five while adding seven goals for 19 points. Mike Rita capped off the evening with his second career goal in the 71st-minute to extend the lead to four before the Patriots got their only goal of the night on a late penalty.
 
UMass leads the all-time series with Fordham 14-7-0, defeating the Rams on the road last season 2-0 and 1-0 in overtime at home in 2016 before falling to Fordham 1-0 in the 2015 A-10 Quarterfinals.
 
The Minutemen are currently ranked No. 27 in the latest NCAA RPI released Monday and are ranked in multiple other polls, including a No. 21-ranking in College Soccer News along with being ranked No. 22 in both the Soccer America and Top Drawer Soccer polls.
 
UMass will remain home at Rudd Field as they are set to host the A-10 Quarterfinals on Sunday, Nov. 5 with the time and opponent to be determined.
