BOCA RATON, Fla. - University of Massachusetts softball fell to LIU Brooklyn, 5-1 on Saturday in the second day of the Parents' Weekend Tournament hosted by Florida Atlantic University on Boca Raton, Fla. The Minutewomen move to 5-11 on the season.

Sophomore Meg Colleran earned the start in the circle for UMass and threw all seven innings. Colleran struck out three batters and allowed just one extra base hit in the game -- a double in the seventh inning. Just three of the sophomore's five runs allowed were earned.

The Minutewomen scored the first run in the home half of the fifth inning. Freshman Melissa Garcia led off the inning with an infield single. Her classmate Shea Newsome pinch-ran and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Senior Whitney Cooper drove in the run with a single to right field.

LIU Brooklyn tied the game in the sixth inning when sophomore Victoria Zamora scored from a sacrifice fly off the bat of senior Ariana Lopez. The Blackbirds added four more runs in the seventh inning, highlighted by senior Whitney West's RBI double down the left field line.

The Minutewomen are back on the field Sunday at 9 a.m. when they meet Mercer, followed by Rutgers in the second game of a doubleheader at the conclusion of the first game.
