UMass fell to Mercer in the first game of the day, 8-0.
The Bears offense was highlighted by a five run third inning, where Mercer recorded seven hits. Taylor Miller started off the inning with a bunt single and stole second base two batters later. Mercer then hit back-to-back doubles off the bats of freshman Lindsay Boynton and sophomore Quirisa Mauga to make the score 3-0.
Freshman Erin Stacevicz reached base three times for the Minutewomen in the game. The outfielder was safe on an error in the first inning, walked in the third inning and delivered a two-out single in the fifth.
Infielder Kaitlyn Stavinoha reached base in the first inning on a fielders choice and stole second base.
Game Two
The Minutewomen dropped the second game to former Atlantic 10 foe Rutgers, 6-0.
Freshman Kaycee Carbone and Stacevicz each collected two hits for the Minutewomen in the game. Carbone singled with two outs in the seventh inning to try and start a rally, but Rutgers was able to get out of the jam.
Rutgers scored two runs in the second inning. Senior Stephanie Huang sent a single through the right side of the infield to score a run. Huang and freshman Nicolette Anico executed a double steal, with Anico being credited with the steal of home for the second Scarlet Knights run.
RU scored again in the third, when Anico grounded into an RBI fielder’s choice to end the inning. The Scarlet Knights also plated a run in the sixth and two in the seventh to grow their lead.
