Minutewomen Win Two, Carbone Sisters Bash

GREENVILLE, N.C. - University of Massachusetts softball won both ends of its double header on Saturday in the ECU Pirate Clash in Greenville, N.C. The Minutewomen improve to 2-5 on the season.
Game One
Redshirt sophomore Jena Cozza went 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBI as UMass earned its first win of the season, a 3-2 victory over Bucknell, in game one of Saturday's slate.
Cozza reached base all four times at the plate. Her home run led off the game and gave the Minutewomen a quick 1-0 lead. She doubled in the fifth inning to score two more runs.
Senior Taylor Carbone earned the first win of her career in the UMass victory. She threw 5.2 innings with two earned runs.
Sophomore Meg Colleran came in to relieve Carbone in the sixth inning with two outs and did not allow a hit in her 1.1 innings of work. The sophomore earned the save, needing just 10 pitches to retire the side in the seventh.
Freshman Erin Stacevicz provided two hits in the game, while freshman Kaycee Carbone also picked up a hit. Both players scored on the Cozza double in the fifth inning.
Game Two
Colleran dominated a tough Saint Francis offense and pitched the Minutewomen past the Red Flash, 3-0, in game two on Saturday.
The Minutewomen were led offensively by the Carbone sisters. Taylor, blasted a two-run homer in the first inning to give Massachusetts an early lead. Kaycee followed up with a solo shot in the second inning to make the score 3-0, providing all the offense UMass would need in the game.
Colleran threw all seven innings for UMass, allowing just two hits in the shutout. The sophomore struck out four batters.
The Minutewomen are back in action on Sunday to close out the ECU Pirate Clash, taking on Saint Francis at 10 a.m.
