AMHERST, Mass. - Sophomore Jen Hadley (Bristol, Conn.) picked up her seventh win of the season, as the University of Massachusetts split today with Dayton, 3-1 and 2-0, to remain atop the Atlantic 10 with a 11-3 conference mark and a 26-20 record overall this season. The Flyers now stand at 10-4 in Atlantic 10 action and 33-20 overall this year with the split.

The Minutewomen struggled in the first game of the day, coming up with only three hits, while recording two errors in the loss. Dayton got on the board in the first, as Tanya Leet hit a lead-off home run to take a 1-0 lead. Kerry White pounded the Flyers second homer of the day in the third to give Dayton a 2-0 advantage over UMass, and then went on to take a 3-0 lead in the seventh off a RBI by White. The Minutewomen could only come up with one run in the seventh, to fall short of Dayton, 3-1, for the game. Freshman Kerri Landers (Berkley, Mass.) stole home as the pinch-runner for freshman Brandi Cross (Diamond Bar, Calif.), who singled earlier in the inning.

Freshman Kaila Holtz (North Vancouver, B.C.) came away with the loss to drop to 13-7 this season. Holtz struck out four batters, while allowing six hits and walking one in seven innings pitched.

UMass retaliated from the first game loss to win the second game of the day, thanks to some solid pitching by Hadley and a pair of back-to-back Minutewomen solo home runs in the first inning. Cross pounded out her seventh homer of the season and sophomore Cherra "Scooter" Wheeler (Kingburg, Calif.) connected on her fourth this year and 11th overall in her UMass career.

Hadley improved to 7-6 this season with the victory. She struck out seven batters, while allowing three hits in seven innings pitched.

The Minutewomen will return to action on May 2, when they play host to Boston College for a doubleheader at 3 p.m.
