TAMPA, Fla. -- South Florida pitcher Jaime Anderson allowed just two over six innings, leading the Bulls to a 4-2 win over the UMass Minutewomen on Thursday night on the USF campus in UMass' second game at the Speedline Invitational. UMass drops to 2-11 on the season, while South Florida improves to 14-17.

South Florida jumped out to a three-run lead in the top of the second inning. With two outs and a runner on third, UMass junior hurler Carrie Jeffries (Placentia, Calif.) hit South Florida designated player Alanna Hazzard before giving up back-to-back singles to Lea Mishlan and Nora Wideikis. Jeffries then hit Bulls's third baseman Andi Michaels and walked Renee Oursler, forcing in two runs before getting Courtney Lewellen to fly out to center field.

The Minutewomen got on the board with an RBI double by Freshman Brandi Cross (Diamond Bar, Calif.). Cross knocked in freshman outfielder Anna Perey (Chino Valley, Ariz.) who had reached on an error to lead off the inning, then stole second base.

The Bulls went up 4-0 in the top of the fourth inning. Mishlan reached on a fielder's choice the stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by UMass catcher Nikki Faessler (Milford, Mass.). Oursler hit a two-out single scoring Mishlan to score the Bull's fourth run.

UMass pulled to within two in the bottom of the fourth inning. Junior Kiley Scofield (Murietta, Calif.) walked to lead off the inning, advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by Faessler and advancing to third on a wild pitch. Junior designated player Debbie Tomoguchi (Irvine, Calif.) flied out to center field with one out, scoring Scofield from third for the final UMass run.

Jeffries dropped to 1-4 on the season, going the distance and giving up three earned runs on nine hits. Henderson improved to 4-7 on the season, giving up one earned run on two hits and striking out five.

The Minutewomen will face Penn State tomorrow at Noon, followed by a matchup with North Carolina at 2:00 p.m.
