Shane Madden is in his first season filling a role as an undergraduate volunteer assistant with the University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse program following two years as a competitor with the team. 

As a freshman in 2016, Madden won a CAA Commissioner's Academic Award and scored one goal on his only shot taken over three games played as a reserve on midfield or attack. He did not see the field as a sophomore in 2017 due to injury, medically retired from competition and shifted into his current role following the season.

Madden is a graduate of Trinity-Pawling High School in Pawling, N.Y., after he began his scholastic studies at Brookfield High School. He captained the Trinity-Pawling squad as a senior in 2015 and provided 32 points via 19 goals and 13 assists and received All-Founders League in his first year (2014), when he contributed 19 points on 14 goals and five assists.

Madden was an Under Armor All-American and All-SWC selection at Brookfield High School in 2013. He led Brookfield as a sophomore in 2012 with 53 points through 34 goals and 19 assists and followed his 2012 season with 74 points on 49 goals and 25 assists in 2013. Madden was a member of the National Honor Society in 2014 and 2015.

He is the son of Kevin and Michelle Madden and has two brothers, Kyle and Brian.
