Noah Rak
- Title:
- Volunteer Assistant Coach
Four-year University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse letterman Noah Rak rejoined the program as a volunteer assistant coach prior to the 2019-20 academic year and completed his second year in the role during the Spring, 2021.
Rak, the program's all-time leader in faceoff victories (506), faceoffs attempted (887) and groundballs (278), assists the coaching staff in a variety of manners throughout the upcoming year, including overseeing the development of the faceoff specialists.
During his two seasons volunteering as a coach, Rak assisted in the development of Zack Hochman, who already ranks among the program's top faceoff men in program history. Through two years of competition, Hochman is 213-for-383 (.556) on faceoffs, which ranks him sixth all-time for faceoff percentage and 12th each for faceoffs taken and won. Hochman, an All-CAA pick as a sophomore in 2021, averages 7.35 groundballs per game and is on pace to shatter the program's career groundballs record currently held by Rak.
Rak wrapped up a dominant career at the X in 2018 with NEILA All-Region First Team and All-CAA First Team accolades as he went 208-of-351 on faceoffs (.593) with 138 groundballs and 10 points via five goals and as many assists. He reset the program record for career faceoff victories during the team's win over Drexel on March 31, 2018 before he moved into first all-time for groundballs against Towson two weeks later.
Also the team's primary faceoff specialist as a junior in 2017, Rak finished the year 148-for-244 (.607) with 69 groundballs and four points through two goals and two assists.
Following graduation, Rak began professional competition for Major League Lacrosse's Charlotte Hounds following his selection with the 30th overall pick in the 2018 MLL Collegiate Draft. Rak moved over to the New York Lizards for the beginning of the 2019 season before he was traded to the Chesapeake Bayhawks mid-year. He was recently selected from the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) Player Pool ahead of the 2021 season.
