Salanger Headlines Massachusetts Men’s Lacrosse A-10 Postseason Award Winners

RICHMOND, Va. – Six members of the University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse program collected postseason accolades from the Atlantic 10, the conference announced on Wednesday. Leading the way, sophomore Owen Salanger was named the Atlantic 10 Goalkeeper of the Year, while also earning A-10 All-Conference First Team recognition. Senior defender Zach Auble joined Salanger on the First Team, while junior midfielder Charles Kurtz received Second Team honors.
In addition, freshman attack Colin Coyle and freshman midfielder Thomas Bagnall were selected to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team, while sophomore Will Morse captured a spot on the All-Academic Team.
Salanger, the second Gorilla to be named the conference's Goalkeeper of the Year, joining Matt Knote, finished the regular season ranked seventh nationally in save percentage at 56.6% and third in the nation in saves per-game (13.79). The Liverpool, New York native started all 15 games for UMass in the regular season, posting a 10-5 record with a 10.66 goals against average 206 saves. He averaged 15 saves per-game in A-10 action, holding a .581 save percentage and a 10.55 GAA.
A two-time Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week this season Salanger had 10 or more saves 14 times in 15 games, posting 15 or more stops six times. He made 23 saves in a win over Brown, the most by a UMass goalkeeper in at least 25 years and the fourth highest save total by a goalkeeper in the nation this season.
Auble captured his first career all-conference nod after previously being named to the All-Rookie Team in 2023. He enters the postseason ranked ninth nationally in caused turnovers per-game (2.21). The Burlington, Massachusetts native has seen action in all 15 games, recording seven points on a goal and six assists with a team-best 67 ground balls and 33 caused turnovers. In A-10 play Auble finished with 21 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers over five conference games to go along with two assists. To date he has logged five games with five or more ground balls and five games with three or more caused turnovers this season.
Kurtz, a first time all-conference selection, led UMass in scoring in A-10 play with 15 points in five A-10 games on 10 goals and five assists. The Cheshire, Connecticut native finished the regular season third overall for UMass in scoring with 36 points in 14 games and led the squad in goals with 27 while recording two game winners and four man-up tallies. Kurtz carries a five-game point streak into the postseason and has scored three or more goals five times on the year, including a career best five in UMass' win over Saint Joseph's. The A-10 Offensive Player of the Week following that performance against the Hawks, Kurtz had three or more points on eight occasions over 15 games.
In his first season in a UMass uniform, Bagnall tied for the team lead in goal scoring in A-10 play with 10 despite missing one game due to injury. Among those tallies iwere a double OT game winner and a man-down goal. The Oakville, Ontario native concluded the regular season with 25 points on 17 goals and eight assists, two game winners, a man-up goal, a man-down goal 10 ground balls and seven caused turnovers. A two-time Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, Bagnall carries an active six-game point streak into the postseason and has put up three or more points on four occasions, including a season-best five goals against Hobart.
Coyle logged 23 points on 12 goals and 11 assists in 14 games with two game winners, 10 ground balls and three caused turnovers in his first season in Amherst. A native of Westfield, New Jersey, Coyle had a four-goal game against Quinnipiac and posted back-to-back five point games against UAlbany and UMass Lowell. He was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week twice this season.

The Norwell, Massachusetts native was part of a UMass defense that finished the regular season ranked 23rd nationally and second in the A-10, allowing 10.13 goals per-game. Morse's first goal of the season came against UMass Lowell, while he put up his first multi-goal game of his career against Delaware. He had 12 ground balls and eight caused turnovers in A-10 play, while committing just one turnover.
