No. 18/19 Massachusetts Men’s Lacrosse Sprints Past UMass Lowell, 18-8

AMHERST, Mass. – No. 18/19 University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse led wire to wire, picking up an 18-8 win over UMass Lowell in The Bubble on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, the Gorillas improve to 6-1 on the season, while the River Hawks fall to 2-2.
Sophomore Jack Turowsky had five points with a hat trick and two assists, while freshman Colin Coyle contributed a goal and four assists. Charles Kurtz posted his fourth hat trick of the season and added an assist for four points, while Tyler Clayton chipped in with a hat trick, as well. Defensively senior Zach Auble collected six ground balls and two caused turnovers.
UMass sprinted out to a 5-0 lead in the first quarter before Danny Burke scored twice for UMass Lowell to end the period. Burke went on to finish with a game-high five goals.
After senior Liam Maher opened the second with his first collegiate goal, the teams played level to the intermission as the Gorillas held an 8-4 advantage at the break.
UMass doubled up the River Hawks in the third, outscoring UMass Lowell 6-3 in the frame.
The Gorillas rattled off four more tallies in the fourth before the River Hawks capped things off with an extra man tally with four seconds to play.
UMass ended the contest with a 51-34 advantage in shots and went 2-for-2 on extra man opportunities while UMass Lowell was 1-for-2.
Sophomore Owen Salanger totaled 13 saves for the Gorillas and Carter O'Brien stopped 14 for the River Hawks.
UMass will be back in action this Saturday, March 7, when the squad will close out its nonconference slate against Vermont at 12 p.m. on Garber Field.
