Massachusetts Women's Lacrosse Falls At No. 23 Penn State, 17-9

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse dropped a 17-9 decision at No. 23 Penn State on Wednesday at Holuba Hall. UMass falls to 1-1, while the Nittany Lions move to 2-0.
Ava Connaughton had a team-high four points on two goals and two assists. Katie Onderdonk scored twice, while Lil Hancock added a goal and two draw controls. Katie Peterson and Bridget Valentine logged four draw controls apiece.
Erika Ho posted a game-best seven points (3g, 4a) for Penn State, Rocquette Allen followed with six points (5g, 1a) and Kelly Mackinney contributed five (3g, 2a).
The Nittany Lions began the contest with a 9-0 advantage before Brigid Manning opened the scoring for UMass with 3:05 remaining in the opening half.
Massachusetts outscored Penn State in the second half, 8-7, but the first half deficit was too great to overcome.
The Nittany Lions finished with a 34-30 shot advantage and had 16 draw controls to UMass' 13. Massachusetts totaled seven caused turnovers and Bayley Duffy made nine saves, while Penn State registered 10 caused turnovers and Sydney Manning stopped 11 shots in the cage.
UMass will return to action this Saturday, February 14, against Vermont on Garber Field at 12 p.m.
