Massachusetts Men’s Lacrosse Drops Regular Season Finale To Hobart, 16-15

April 25, 2025 | Men's Lacrosse

AMHERST, Mass. – Massachusetts men's lacrosse held an 8-7 lead at the half, but a 6-1 third quarter helped carry Hobart past UMass, 16-15 on Garber Field on Friday evening. The loss leaves the Gorillas at 9-5 overall and 2-3 in the Atlantic 10, while the Statesmen improve to 5-9 and 2-3 in conference action.

Senior Trace Hogan paced UMass with seven points on three goals and four assists with two ground balls. Junior Aiden Drunsic and senior Caelin Lewis each had a hat trick, while Drunsic also corralled four ground balls. Freshman Robbie Granara scored twice to round out the multi-point scorers for the Maroon & White.

For Hobart, Will Delano led the way with six points on two goals and four assists. David Peterkin followed with five points with a hat trick and two assists. John Jude Considine and Cade Dino each had a hat trick and Brice Johnson had two goals and an assist.

The Statesmen began the contest with a 4-1 run with UMass' lone tally in that span coming on the man-up from Granara. With under five minutes to play in the opening quarter, two goals for the Gorillas in a 20-second span kick started a 5-1 stretch for UMass that lasted until midway through the second. The teams then traded goals twice as the Gorillas went into the halftime break up by one.

Hobart then came out in the second half and netted six straight before Drunsic ended the drought for UMass with an extra man goal at the 2:53 mark. Granara began the final frame with his second of the day, to bring the squad back within three, but Hobart responded with the next two tallies to go back up by five.

The Gorillas ended the contest on a 5-1 run but were unable to come up with the equalizer in the final minute of play, despite several chances in the offensive end.

UMass ended the evening with a 46-36 advantage in shots, while Hobart edged the Gorillas in ground balls, 38-34. In extra-man opportunities, the Minutemen went 2-for-2 and the Statesmen were 1-for-3.

Freshman goalkeeper Owen Salanger made 10 saves for UMass and Jackson Faiola made 16 stops for Hobart.
