Minutewomen Drop A-10 Semifinal To Saint Louis

BRONX, N.Y. -- Massachusetts (20-35, 14-12 A-10) ended it's season in the A-10 semifinal losing a 5-3 decision to Saint Louis (30-21, 15-10) in the 2024 Atlantic 10 Championship on Friday afternoon at Bahoshy Field. 

On the offensive side of the ball, the Minutewomen scored three runs on seven hits from six different players. Senior Bella Pantoja continued to see the ball, going 2-for-4 at the plate moving her hit total for the tournament to six. Grace Cadden recorded the lone Massachusetts RBI of the day, starting off the teams sixth inning rally. Chloe Whittier ended her UMass career on an eight game hitting streak, reaching base in every game of the A-10 Tournament.

Sophomore Natalee Horton made her 17th start of the season and first of the A-10 Tournament. Horton was effective allowing just six hits over a complete-game 7.0 innings of work.

Breaking Down The Action
  • Saint Louis started the scoring, taking a 1-0 advantage in the second innings off a Abby Mallo sacrifice fly.
  • The Billikens added insurance, scoring four runs on three hits to make it 5-0 after three innings.
  • The Minutewomen started a late-inning rally as Grace Cadden singled home Giana Wameling to make it 5-1 in the top of the sixth.
  • Massachusetts added two more runs in the sixth, both scoring on errors at third base, moving the score to 5-3 heading into the bottom half of the inning.
  • The game entered into a 1:00 hour rain delay with two outs in the bottom of the sixth.
  • Sarah Keagy pushed across the Minutewomen's third run of the game as Chloe Whittier scored on an error at third base, making the score 5-3 in the top of the seventh.
  • Massachusetts late inning heroics came up just short as Grace Cadden lined out to right field, ending the comeback bid and 2024 season for the Minutewomen.

  • .306: Pantoja moved her batting average to .306 on the season, the third season of her career she reached the mark.
  • 2: Pantoja recorded two hits on the afternoon, her sixth base knock of the tournament.

  • 17: Horton earned her 17th start of the season and first of the A-10 Tournament.
