AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse team begins a three-game homestand on Saturday against VCU. The Minutewomen and the Rams begin play on Garber Field at noon on ESPN+.
Time Update
Saturday's contest against VCU will now be played at noon on Garber Field instead of the originally scheduled time of 1 p.m.
Last Time Out
The Minutewomen picked up their seventh consecutive win with an 18-9 victory on Tuesday afternoon at UMass Lowell. UMass trailed 4-1 early in the second quarter before rattling off 15 straight goals to take a 16-4 lead late in the third. Charlotte Wilmoth led the way with four goals and four assists while Kassidy Morris and Ava Connaughton each pitched in hat tricks. Fiona McGowan recorded a team-high five assists with Jordan Dean finishing with a tied for career-high 19 draw controls for a team that finished with a 26-4 advantage on the day.
Series History
Saturday's game marks the seventh all-time meeting between UMass and VCU dating back to the first matchup during the 2016 campaign. The Minutewomen hold a 5-1 advantage after claiming a 15-7 win a season ago while winning the last three games in the series.
Helping Hand
Fiona McGowan moved up to fifth all-time at UMass in career assists with 112, passing Haley Connaughton (2018-22) to move into the top-five. The attacker is three assists away from passing Erika Eipp (2014-16) for fourth all-time while Katie Ferris' (2011-14) 119 career assists is third most. McGowan enters the weekend ranked fourth in Division I in assists per game at 3.42 and ranks fifth in total assists with 41.
Quick Draw
Jordan Dean heads into the weekend at the Division I and Atlantic 10 leader in draw controls per game at 13.50. The junior has reached double-digits in draw controls in 10-of-12 games this season, including posting back-to-back career-high 19 draw controls at La Salle and against St. Bonaventure before picking up 19 again at UMass Lowell. Dean currently ranks second all-time at UMass in career draw controls with 358 and trails Caitlyn Petro's (2018-21) 394 for most all-time.
The Century Mark
Audra Tosone became the second Minutewoman in program history to reached 100 caused turnovers for her career as she finished with a pair in UMass' 20-7 win at Duquesne on Saturday. The graduate has caused 100 turnovers for her career and is 16 away from setting a new program-best mark. Tosone secured four ground balls to go along with three draw controls as the UMass defense held a league opponent under 10 goals for the fourth time in six games.
Mo' Offense
Kassidy Morris leads the Minutewomen in goals this season with 40 to rank third among A-10 leaders while leading the league and ranking 31st nationally in goals per game at 3.33. Morris is tied for second on the team in points with 54 and has added 14 assists this year. The attacker has recorded hat tricks in 10-of-12 games this season with a career-best six goals coming in the win over Davidson.
Char's Career Day
Charlotte Wilmoth tallied new career-highs in both goals with seven and points with 10 as the Minutewomen picked up their sixth straight win with a 20-7 victory at Duquesne on Saturday. Wilmoth completed her fourth consecutive hat trick in the second quarter and extended her streak of four or more goals to four. The senior added four more goals in the third quarter and finished the afternoon by putting 9-of-12 shots on target with a caused turnover and ground ball.
20-20 Vision
The Minutewomen racked up 20 goals for the fourth time in six Atlantic 10 contests in a 20-7 win at Duquesne on Saturday. UMass posted a season-high 21 goals in a win over St. Bonaventure and had 11 different goal scorers find the back of the net in the win while 12 different players scored at La Salle.
Looking Ahead
UMass remains at home for the next two contests and hosts UConn on Wednesday, April 17 at 6 p.m. in non-conference action. The Minutewomen round out the regular season home schedule with George Washington on Saturday, April 20 at 3 p.m. before playing at Richmond on Saturday, April 27 in the regular season finale.
