AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse team continues its three-game home stretch with a matchup against UConn on Wednesday. The Minutewomen and the Huskies are set for a 6 p.m. first draw on ESPN+.
Fill The Hill
Wednesday's game marks the Fill The Hill game for the Minutewomen with the first 500 fans in attendance receiving a rally towel.
Last Time Out
UMass picked up a 16-8 win over VCU in their last contest on Saturday afternoon, outscoring the Rams 6-0 in the third quarter after the game was all square at 6-6 at halftime. Kassidy Morris scored a career-high seven goals and added an assist while Jordan Dean finished with a career-best 20 draw controls. Charlotte Wilmoth added three goals and an assist with Audra Tosone anchoring UMass' defense with four caused turnovers.
Series History
Wednesday's game marks the 21st all-time matchup between UMass and UConn dating back to the first meeting during the 1998 season. UMass holds a 15-5 all-time series lead after claiming last year's meeting in Storrs, 16-12. The teams have split the last four meetings while UMass has won 11 of the last 13 meetings.
A-10 Offensive Player of the Week
Kassidy Morris was named the Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after finishing last week with 10 goals and two assists for 12 points. Morris scored a career-best seven goals in Saturday's 16-8 win over VCU to record her 12th hat trick of the season. The redshirt sophomore opened the week with three goals and two assists as the Minutewomen scored 15 unanswered goals in an 18-9 win at UMass Lowell on Tuesday. The attacker reached a new career-high with seven goals in a 16-8 win over VCU and moved to a team-leading 47 goals on the season. Morris scored four goals in the third quarter against the Rams as UMass scored six unanswered after a tied game at half.
Quick Draw
Jordan Dean remains atop Division I in draw controls per game with 14.15 after racking up a career-high 20 in Saturday's win over VCU. Dean has reached double-digit in draw controls in 11-of-13 games this season and has recorded 17 or more in five games. The junior ranks second all-time at UMass in career draw controls with 378 and trails Caitlyn Petro's (2018-21) 394 for most all-time.
Helping Hand
Fiona McGowan moved into a tie for fourth all-time at UMass in career assists with 114, tying Erika Eipp and moving close to Katie Ferris' 119 assists for third all-time. McGowan ranks second in Division I in assists per game with 3.31 and is eighth among DI leaders in total assists with 43. The graduate student also ranks seventh all-time at UMass in career points and is four points away from passing Jackie Lyons' 226 for sixth all-time.
The Century Mark
Audra Tosone became the second Minutewoman in program history to reach 100 caused turnovers for her career as she finished with a pair in UMass' 20-7 win at Duquesne. The graduate has caused 104 turnovers for her career and is 12 away from setting a new program-best mark. This season, Tosone has seven games with multiple caused turnovers and reached a season-high with six in a win over Davidson on March 30.
Char's Career Day
Charlotte Wilmoth tallied new career-highs in both goals with seven and points with 10 in a 20-7 victory at Duquesne on April 6. Wilmoth completed her fourth consecutive hat trick in the second quarter and extended her streak of four or more goals to four. The senior added four more goals in the third quarter and finished the afternoon by putting 9-of-12 shots on target with a caused turnover and ground ball. On the season, Wilmoth is in the midst of a six-game hat trick streak and has reached four goals in six games.
Looking Ahead
The Minutewomen wrap up their three-game homestand with Senior Day on Saturday, April 20 at 3 p.m. against George Washington. UMass has just two games remaining on the regular season schedule after Wednesday night and conclude the regular season on Saturday, April 27 with a noon start at Richmond.
A-10 Championship
The 2024 Atlantic 10 Women's Lacrosse Championship will be held from May 2-5 on the campus of Duquesne on Pittsburgh, Pa. First round action begins on Thursday, May 2 for the no. 3-6 seeds with the two top seeds receiving a bye to the semifinals on Friday, May 3. The championship game is slated for Sunday, May 5 at noon.
