Women’s Lacrosse Opens A-10 Play On Saturday At George Mason

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse team begins Atlantic 10 play on Saturday at George Mason. The Minutewomen and the Patriots begin play at noon on ESPN+.
Last Time Out
UMass scored five consecutive goals, including three in 22 seconds of game time but came up short on Tuesday at Dartmouth 15-9. Kassidy Morris finished with her fourth straight hat trick and scored three goals in 1:08 of game time while Fiona McGowan and Charlotte Wilmoth chipped in three and two goals, respectively.
Series History
Saturday's game marks the 10th all-time meeting between the Minutewomen and the Patriots dating back to the first matchup in 2002. UMass leads the all-time series 9-0 and claimed a 23-4 win over George Mason last season in Amherst.
Road Trip Complete
The game against George Mason marks the third straight game on the road for the Minutewomen. UMass defeated LIU last Saturday to open the three-game stretch away from home before falling at Dartmouth on Tuesday.
A-10 Rookie of the Week
Ava Connaughton earned her first Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honor on Monday after posting her first career hat trick in a win at LIU. The freshman picked up three goals and an assist in the win over the Sharks, finding the back of the net in the second, third, and fourth quarters of a 15-6 win.
Quick Draw
Jordan Dean ranks second nationally and leads the A-10 in draw controls per game at 10.80 through five games this season. Dean has reached double figures in draw controls in 3-of-5 games, including 17 against Holy Cross on Feb. 27. The junior ranks third all-time at UMass in career draw controls with 248, trailing Hannah Murphy (310) for second all-time. As a team this season, UMass leads the A-10 and is ninth among Division I teams in draw controls per game at 17.60.
Kassidy's Career-Highs
Kassidy Morris has posted multiple career-highs through five games this season for the Minutewomen, finishing with a career-high seven points on four goals and three assists in the home opener against Brown. Morris passed a then career-high four goals with five in the win at LIU last Saturday.
Causin' Problems
Audra Tosone passed Jackie Rosenzweig for fourth all-time at UMass in career caused turnovers as she finished with two against Holy Cross. Tosone's 86 career caused turnovers trails Jackie Nesbitt's 87 for third-most all-time while Kate Farnham's 95 are second-most in program history.
Helping Hand
Fiona McGowan ranks eighth all-time in career assists at UMass with 79 for her career. McGowan trails Jackie Lyons' 83 assists for seventh all-time while Cari Nickerson ranks sixth-most with 106 career assists.
First Hat Tricks
Caroline Whelan and Ava Connaughton each picked up their first collegiate hat tricks last week. Whelan finished with her first career hat trick against Holy Cross on Tuesday while Connaughton recorded hers on Saturday at LIU, finishing with three goals and an assist for four points.
Looking Ahead
The Minutewomen play three of their next four games at Garber Field following Saturday's game and host Saint Joseph's for the A-10 home opener on Saturday, March 16 at 1 p.m. UMass follows with a midweek contest at La Salle before hosting St. Bonaventure and Davidson in the next two games.
