UMass Wins Fifth Straight, Defeats Davidson 13-11

AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse team won its fifth consecutive game on Saturday with a 13-11 victory over Davidson at Garber Field. Kassidy Morris put home a season-high six goals while Charlotte Wilmoth added four goals and an assist.

Morris recorded a first quarter hat trick for the Minutewomen, scoring all three goals for UMass in the frame as she picked up her first of the day off a Tessa Shields assist with 6:53 to go in the first. Fiona McGowan picked up her first of six assists on the day moments later, finding Morris for her second goal at the 5:15 mark. Morris capped off her first quarter hat trick 12 seconds later to make it 3-0 off the Wilmoth assist before Davidson netted its first goal of the day to make it 3-1.

UMass extended its lead to four goals at the break after outscoring the Wildcats 4-2 in the second quarter. McGowan assisted on the first two goals in the frame, finding Wilmoth at the 11:22 mark before assisting on an Audra Tosone goal with 11:07 to go in the half to make it 5-1. After Davidson make it a three-goal game with 4:52 to go, Ava Connaughton connected with Morris for her fourth goal of the day to bring the count to 6-2. Wilmoth added the seventh and final goal of the half for the Minutewomen with 3:26 to play in the second to make it 7-3 at the halftime break.

Davidson scored the first two goals of the second half to get within two goals of UMass with 6:27 to play in the quarter. Shields ended the run and started a UMass stretch of three consecutive goals, making it 8-5 at the 5:07 mark before McGowan assisted on goals by Morris and Wilmoth to make it 10-5 with just over two to play in the frame.

The Wildcats scored five of the next six goals in the game, pulling within a goal at 11-10 with 8:09 to go in the contest. Delaney Rodriguez-Shaw found Kassidy Morris for the woman up goal with 4:42 to play to make it a two-goal game before Connaughton added the final UMass goal with 3:31 to go to make it 13-10 in favor of the Minutewomen.

Jordan Dean finished with a game-high 15 draw controls to mark her eighth double-digit game in 10 contests this season. Tosone finished with five caused turnovers for a UMass squad that finished with 12 on the afternoon and added five ground balls. Catrina Tobin recorded her sixth win of the season in goal for the Minutewomen, finishing with seven saves.

The Minutewomen continue Atlantic 10 play on Saturday, April 6 with a noon start at Duquesne before breaking from league play for a midweek matchup at UMass Lowell on Tuesday, April 9 at 3:30 p.m.
