UMass Scores Season-Best 21 Goals In 21-5 Win Over St. Bonaventure

AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse team posted at least 20 goals for the second consecutive game as the Minutewomen rolled to a 21-5 win over St. Bonaventure on a rainy Saturday at Garber Field. The Minutewomen scored a season-high 21 goals in the win, led by five from Charlotte Wilmoth and three from Fiona McGowan to go along with four assists.

The game marked the third 20-plus scoring game for the Minutewomen in A-10 play.

UMass had 11 different players find the back of the net with six players finishing with multi-goal games. Jordan Dean led a UMass squad that finished with a 22-7 advantage on the draw with a tied for career-high 19 controls. Catrina Tobin logged five saves and allowed just one goal in the first half while Gianna Cameron added two saves in the fourth in goal for the Minutewomen.

After the Bonnies scored the game's opening goal just under a minute into action, the Minutewomen rattled off 14 unanswered goals before St. Bonaventure broke through for their second goal at the 7:25 mark of the third quarter. Delaney Rodriguez-Shaw scored her first of two goals to make it 1-1 before Audra Tosone's second of the year gave UMass its first lead of the day. Wilmoth assisted on Tosone's goal and followed with her first goal of the day minutes later before scores from Kassidy Morris and McGowan made it 5-1 at the first break.

Tessa Shields finished the afternoon with a pair of goals, netting her first on a woman up opportunity early in the second. Ava Connaughton broke through for a goal with 8:36 to go in the second to make it 8-1 before Caroline Whelan stretched the lead to eight moments later. Lil Hancock capped off an 11-1 first half for the Minutewomen with her fifth goal of the season with just under two minutes left until half.

UMass finished the first 30 minutes of play with a 19-8 shot advantage and ended the game with 34 shots to St. Bonaventure's 15.

The Minutewomen scored three straight to open the third, with McGowan and Shields getting things going on a pair of successful free position attempts before Rodriguez-Shaw's second made it a 14-1 contest. McGowan completed her hat trick with 6:23 to go with Tosone adding her second to bring the count to 16-2 with 4:39 to go in the third. Katie Peterson scored her first collegiate goal in the final minutes of the third on a Hancock assist before the Bonnies added their third of the game to make it 17-3 heading to the fourth.

Wilmoth netted her fourth and fifth of the game consecutively to make it 19-4 in favor of UMass before Bridget Valentine found the back of the net for her first collegiate goal to give the Minutewomen 20 for the day. Peterson added her second of the game and the final goal for the Minutewomen with 2:51 remaining.

The Minutewomen remain at Garber Field to take on Davidson on Saturday, March 30 at noon before hitting the road for two consecutive games away from home.
