AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse team begins a three-game road trip on Saturday at LIU. The Minutewomen and Sharks begin play at 11 a.m. on NEC Front Row.
Last Time Out
The Minutewomen came up short in their last game against Holy Cross on Tuesday at home, 12-10. UMass rallied from down 6-1 to start the game and took its first lead at 10-9 with 10:19 remaining. Caroline Whelan and Kassidy Morris each finished with a hat trick while Charlotte Wilmoth added two goals and two assists for four points. Jordan Dean controlled 17 draws on the day for a UMass squad that posted a 22-3 draw control advantage.
Road Trip
Saturday's game at LIU marks the first of three straight on the road for the Minutewomen. UMass follows with a matchup at Dartmouth on Tuesday, March 5 at 4 p.m. before the A-10 opener at George Mason on Saturday, March 9 at noon.
Quick Draw
Jordan Dean leads Division I in draw controls per game with 10.67 after recording 17 against Holy Cross on Tuesday. The junior's 226 career draws ranks third-most in a single season at UMass, trailing Hannah Murphy (310) for second all-time. As a team, UMass ranks eighth nationally and leads the A-10 in draw controls per game at 18.00.
Causin' Problems
Audra Tosone passed Jackie Rosenzweig for fourth all-time at UMass in career caused turnovers as she finished with two against Holy Cross on Tuesday. Tosone's 85 career caused turnovers trails Jackie Nesbitt's 87 for third-most all-time while Kate Farnham's 95 are second-most in program history.
First Hat Trick
Caroline Whelan finished with her first collegiate hat trick against Holy Cross on Tuesday as she finished with three goals. The sophomore scored the first two goals for the Minutewomen and added her third to complete the hat trick with the game-tying goal with 2:06 left in the third.
Helping Hand
Fiona McGowan ranks eighth all-time in career assists at UMass with 76 for her career. McGowan trails Jackie Lyons' 83 assists for seventh all-time while Cari Nickerson ranks sixth-most with 106 career assists.
Kassidy's Career-High
Kassidy Morris finished with a career-high seven points against Brown in UMass' home opener. The sophomore finished with four goals to tie a career-high while adding three assists. Morris scored three of her four goals and added two of her assists in the second half, including a game-tying goal with 3:52 remaining.
Looking Ahead
The Minutewomen follow the three-game road trip with the A-10 home opener on Saturday, March 16 at 1 p.m. on Garber Field. UMass hits the road for a matchup at La Salle the following Wednesday then will play two straight at home against St. Bonaventure and Davidson.
