AMHERST, Mass. - The no. 22-ranked University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse team hosts Brown on Saturday for its home opener at Garber Field. The Minutewomen and the Bears begin play at 12 p.m. on ESPN+.

Last Time Out
UMass was defeated by no. 2-ranked Boston College 20-9 in the season opener in Chestnut Hill last Friday. Charlotte Wilmoth led the Minutewomen with four goals on five shots while Fiona McGowan added a goal and three assists for four points.

ILWomen/IWLCA Top-25
The Minutewomen come into week two of the season ranked no. 22 in the ILWomen/IWLCA Division I Poll. UMass was ranked no. 20 in the preseason rankings and climbed as high as no. 13 in the poll during the 2023 season.

Series History
Saturday's game is the 13th all-time meeting between UMass and Brown dating back to the first matchup during the 1978 season. Brown leads the all-time series with a 7-5 mark while UMass claimed last season's meeting in Providence, 14-9. Fiona McGowan finished with three goals and four assists for seven points while Lauren Tolve added two goals and an assist in the win.

A-10 Offensive Player of the Week
Charlotte Wilmoth was named the Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week after finishing with a team-leading four goals in the season opener at no. 2-ranked Boston College last Friday. The senior scored the first UMass goal of the season with 10 minutes to go in the first and tie at 1-1 before bringing UMass back within a goal with 5:27 left in the first. Wilmoth secured the hat trick late in the second quarter and added her fourth goal in the final seconds of the third quarter.

Movin' On Up
Fiona McGowan moved into a tie for ninth most assists in a career by a UMass player after finishing with three at Boston College last week. McGowan has 74 assists for her career and needs just one more to tie Jeanne Hackett for eighth-most all-time. Jackie Lyons sits at seventh in the UMass record book with 83 assists while Cari Nickerson's 106 is sixth-most for a career.

On The Draw
Jordan Dean heads into Saturday's game ranked fourth all-time at UMass in career draw controls with 196. Dean needs six to surpass Kelsey McGovern's 201 career draw controls. The junior posted 143 draw controls a season ago to rank fourth-most in a single season by a Minutewoman. Dean was tabbed a First-Team All-Atlantic 10 and IWLCA First-Team All-Northeast Region selection and finished her sophomore season ranked 10th among Division I leaders in draw controls per game (7.53).

Causin' Problems
Reigning Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year Audra Tosone ranks fifth all-time at UMass in career caused turnovers with 81 after finishing with 44 a season ago. The graduate student needs three to pass Jackie Rosenzweig for fourth most all-time while Jackie Nesbitt's 87 is third-most in a UMass career. Tosone's 44 caused turnovers in 2023 were second-most in a single season by a Minutewoman while the defender ranked sixth nationally in caused turnovers per game (2.32). The graduate student finished with multiple caused turnovers in 12 contests last season and led UMass in ground balls with 57.

A-10 Preseason Coaches Poll
UMass was picked to finish second in the Atlantic 10 Preseason Coaches Poll with 94 points and four first place votes. The Minutewomen claimed their 12th consecutive A-10 regular season title a year ago with a perfect 9-0 mark in conference play.

Preseason All-Atlantic 10
Fiona McGowan, Charlotte Wilmoth, Jordan Dean, and Audra Tosone were all tabbed to the Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference Team as announced by the league on Tuesday.

Inside Lacrosse Top Unit Defense
Inside Lacrosse tabbed the UMass defense as one of 'Five to Watch' for the upcoming season. The Minutewomen finished last year 11th nationally in goals against average at 8.95.

Dynamic Duo
Attackers Fiona McGowan and Charlotte Wilmoth were named a Top 10 Offensive Duo in Division I Women's Lacrosse by USA Lacrosse Magazine in October. The duo combined for 90 goals and 57 assists a season ago.

The 2023 Season
The Minutewomen finished the 2023 campaign with a 16-3 record on their way to earning a spot in their third consecutive NCAA Tournament. UMass claimed all four of the major A-10 postseason awards and finished the season ranked 11th among Division I teams in scoring defense at 8.95 goals allowed per game while finishing with the nation's seventh-best win percentage.

Looking Ahead
UMass breaks from competition for 10 days following Saturday's game and resumes action on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at Garber Field against Holy Cross at 3 p.m. The Minutewomen follow with three straight games on the road, beginning at LIU on March 2 before concluding the road trip with the A-10 opener on March 9 at George Mason.
