Massachusetts Swimming & Diving Opens 2024-25 Campaign Against Boston College

The Minutemen and Minutewomen host the Eagles for its first home meet of the year on Saturday at 11 a.m.
AMHERST, Mass. ā The University of Massachusetts swimming and diving team begins its 2024-25 campaign on Saturday, October 5, hosting Boston College at the Joseph R. Rogers Jr. Pool. Diving events will kick off the meet at 11 a.m., while swim events start at 1 p.m.

Back In The Water
Massachusetts opens the 2024-25 season in its home pool for the first time since the 2014-15 season. The program faced Army on October 18, 2014, with the Minutewomen winning by a score of 168-132, while the Minutemen dropped to their competitor, 172-128.

The 2023-24 Season
Both teams concluded their 2023-24 season at the Atlantic 10 Championships at the Hampton Aquaplex in Hampton, Virignia. The men placed second with a score of 455.5, while the women finished seventh with a score of 296. The final day was highlighted by the program's combining for 15 top-10 all-time placements in the record book, including four holding school records. Additionally, Andrew Bell earning the A-10 Most Outstanding Men's Diver of the Year honor, while diving coach Missy Bernosky was named the Men's Diving Coach of the Year.

After the A-10 Championships, three divers in Bell, Tommy Cotner and Shreeya Sinha earned a spot to the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships in Princeton, New Jersey. Bell qualified for the NCAA Championships in both the one- and three-meter dives, and became only the second Minuteman diver in school history to represent UMass at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.

In his first trip to theĀ NCAA Championships, Bell finished 20th in the three-meter event, marking the highest finish for a Massachusetts men's diver in program history and was the highest finish for either the men's or women's team since Emma Roush placed 15th in the one-meter dive in 2017. Bell completed the three-meter dive with a six-dive total of 350.70 in the trials and was 42nd in the one-meter diving trials with a total of 280.80.

New Faces
The swimming and diving team welcomes a combined 18 members, with nine additions each to the men's and women's roster. Six swimmers and three divers joined the Minutewomen, while seven swimmers and two divers are added to the Minutemen.

Looking Ahead
Both the men's and women's swim team will return to the pool for the Justin Jennings Invitational, hosted by Colgate, in Hamilton, New York, on Friday, October 11, through Saturday, October 12. Friday's events begin at 4 p.m., with Saturday kicking off at 10 a.m.
