Men’s Swim & Dive Place Fourth In 2026 MVC Championships

The Minutemen totaled 925.50 points across the four-day event to finish fourth.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Massachusetts men's swimming and diving team placed fourth on the final day of the 2026 Missouri Valley Conference Championships after scoring 925.50 points throughout the four-day event at the Deaconess Aquatic Center.  

Freshman Hudson Bawduniak secured the bronze medal in the 200 breaststroke, while the 400 freestyle relay team set a school record on the day.

Additionally, Bawduniak landed on the 2026 All-MVC First Team, with junior Jude Boukarroum, freshman Carson Harrington, freshman Liam Hickey and sophomore Chase Keeler earned All-MVC Honorable Mention.

Hickey (1:45.83) and Keeler (1:46.37) took fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 200 backstroke to start off the individual finals events. Hickey earned a spot in the finals after placing third in the preliminary round with a personal-best time of 1:45.81, marking the fourth-best time in program history. Keeler advanced to the finals with a personal-best time of 1:45.85, which ranked fifth all-time in the record books, in the preliminaries.

In the 100 freestyle, senior Sammy Quigg placed sixth with a season-best time of 44.07, while freshman Macek Vandermolen followed in 12th with a personal-best time of 45.07, marking the ninth-best time in program history. Senior Aidan Shepston finished 15th with a time of 45.54, as sophomore Daniel Strumidlo was 21st with a personal-best time of 45.78.

During the 200 breaststroke, Bawduniak swam a time of 1:57.92 to swim into third, with freshman Eli Panachyda recording a personal-best and the third-best mark all-time, to tie for fourth in the event. Sophomore Nate Derby placed 17th with a time of 2:00.45 and freshman Chase Dai was 18th with a season-best time of 2:03.47.

Bawduniak reached the finals after taking first-place in the preliminaries with a personal-best time of 1:57.65, which ranked second all-time in program history.

The 400 freestyle relay team consisting of Shepston, Quigg, Vandermolen and Hickey broke the men's swim and dive team's fourth relay program record after placing fourth with a time 2:56.70. The relay team broke the previous school record of 2:57.12 by Emerson Kiefer, Shepston, Eric Eastham and Quigg from the 2023-24 season.

In the preliminaries, sophomore Liam Rayson had a personal-best time of 45.96 in the 100 freestyle.
