Bawduniak Medals, Sets Program Record On Day Three Of MVC Championships

Hudson Bawduniak set a program record in the 100 breaststroke prelims, before taking the silver in the finals event.
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Massachusetts men's swimming and diving team concluded day three of the Missouri Valley Conference Championships on Friday evening at the Deaconess Aquatic Center. Freshman Hudson Bawduniak set a program record in the 100 breaststroke preliminaries, before garnering the silver medal during the finals event.
Junior Aydin Erkan started off the individual event finals with a 10th-place finish in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:48.35. Sophomore Liam Rayson followed behind in 18th with a season-best time of 1:51.79.
Bawduniak garnered the silver medal in the 100 breaststroke finals with a time of 53.15, after reaching the finals with his preliminary time of 53.14, which marked a new program and freshman record.
Freshman Bode Groh placed ninth with a personal-best time of 55.21 in the 100 breaststroke, which marked the seventh-best record in program history. Fellow classmate Eli Panachyda took 11th with a time of 55.28 with sophomore Nate Derby close behind in 12th with a time of 55.30.
In the 100 backstroke finals, freshman Liam Hickey swam into 10th with a time of 49.36, while junior Cole Brooks finished 15th with a time of 50.07.
The 800 freestyle relay team of sophomore Daniel Strumidlo, senior Sammy Quigg, junior Jude Boukarroum, Rayson combined for a time of 6:31.90 to place fourth on the day.
In the preliminaries, Erkan had a season-best time of 1:48.31 in the 200 butterfly. Panachyda had a personal-best time of 55.22 in the 100 breaststroke preliminaries, ranking eighth in the all-time records. Hickey (49.09) and Brooks (49.76) posted personal-best times in the 100 backstroke preliminaries as Hickey's mark was good for sixth on the all-time records.
On The Boards
Freshman Carson Harrington and sophomore Alex Kreidler advanced to the finals of the three-meter dive. Harrington placed sixth with a six-dive total of 312.00 in the finals and Kreidler was 10th with a score of 320.75 in the consolation finals.
Harrington sat in fifth during the preliminary round with a total of 290.25, followed by Kreidler in 10th with a total of 282.05
