UMass Advances To A-10 Championship Game With 15-8 Win Over Davidson

RICHMOND, Va. – The top-seeded and no. 13-nationally ranked Massachusetts women's lacrosse team advanced to the Atlantic 10 Championship game with a 15-8 win over no. 4-seed Davidson in the semifinals on Friday afternoon at Cary Street Field. Fiona McGowan led the Minutewomen (16-1 overall) with five goals and three assists for eight points while Alex Finn chipped in three goals and four assists.

Kassidy Morris netted the game's first goal just over a minute in before the Wildcats (12-6 Overall) netted two in a row to take a 2-1 advantage with 9:05 left in the opening frame. The Minutewomen responded by scoring the next three goals while netting nine of the next 10 goals to build a seven-goal lead. Charlotte Wilmoth, Finn, and Morris found the back of the net in the final five minutes and change of the first to take a 5-3 lead into the second. Morris finished with three goals as part of four Minutewomen with multiple goals and six different goal scorers.

Kylee Bowen's first of two goals came with seven seconds remaining in the first and start a stretch of six unanswered goals for the Minutewomen. McGowan scored her first of the afternoon off a free position spot early in the second before Finn and Bowen added to their goal tally, with Finn securing the first half hat trick. McGowan added her fifth point of the day to cap off the scoring run with her 40^th goal of the year to put UMass on top 10-3.

UMass outshot Davidson 23-10 and recorded a 13-3 advantage on the draw in the first half to hold a 10-4 lead at halftime. The Minutewomen outshot the Wildcats 34-21 on the day while Davidson posted an 8-3 advantage on the draw in the second half.

The third quarter featured just three goals combined for both sides, with Charlotte Clavelli putting home her 12^th of the season to open the scoring before Finn connected with Morris to answer a Davidson goal late in the quarter. UMass build a lead as large as seven multiple times on the afternoon and led 12-5 after three.

Davidson strung together three straight goals in the first seven minutes of the fourth quarter to pull within four goals at 12-8 with 8:12 remaining. Lauren Garcia led the Wildcats with a pair of goals as the lone multi-goal scorer on the day for Davidson.

McGowan answered by scoring three straight goals of her own to round out her eight-point day, posting the first off an assist from Finn with 5:53 to go to bring the lead back to five. Finn found McGowan once again less than a minute later while McGowan concluded the game's scoring with her fifth goal with 1:45 to go to bring the count to 15-8.

Gina Carroll and Catrina Tobin each finished with four saves and four goals allowed in their respective halves while Davidson's Amanda Monahan recorded 11 saves in goal. Jordan Dean led all players with seven draw control while Amy Moreau added four to go along with an assist. UMass caused 11 turnovers on the afternoon, with Hannah Heller, Kelly Brown, and Audra Tosone each causing a pair.

The win over the Wildcats also marked the 15^th consecutive win heading into Sunday's championship game at noon against either no. 2-seed Richmond or no. 3-seed Saint Joseph's. The title game will be broadcasted on ESPN+.
