Massachusetts Men’s Lacrosse’s Knote Earns Honorable Mention All-America Honors From Inside Lacrosse

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse senior goalkeeper Matt Knote was tabbed an Honorable Mention All-American by Inside Lacrosse, the organization announced on Wednesday. It marks the sixth time since Inside Lacrosse began issuing a media All-America listing in 2017 that a member of the Gorillas has been honored and the second time a UMass goalkeeper has made the list.
Knote adds to his list of 2023 accolades as he was previously named a third team All-American by USA Lacrosse Magazine. He was also crowned the 2023 Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year and earned spots on the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First team and the A-10 All-Academic team.
The Speonk, New York Native earns his second All-America accolade on the heels of becoming the third UMass netminder to earn a conference major award. Knote collected his third all-conference recognition of his career this spring after also being named to the CAA First Team in back-to-back seasons in 2021 and 2022.
Knote ended the 2023 campaign as the national leader in save percentage (.593) and was tops in the A-10 in goals against average (9.33, fourth nationally) and saves per-game (13.43, 10th nationally). He finished 8-6 on the year after starting all 14 games and has 188 saves to his credit in 829 minutes, 35 seconds between the pipes with 31 ground balls.
Knote was a four-time Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week this season and was named to the USILA Division I Team of the Week twice. He was also recognized as USA Lacrosse Magazine Division I Player of the Week and to the after UMass' win over Army. Knote is a Sport Management major and will return to UMass next fall to pursue his Master of Business Analytics in the Isenberg School of Management.
