Setting the Scene
University of Massachusetts baseball plays its final road contests of the regular season on Friday, May 12 through Sunday, May 14, traveling Bronx, New York, to face Fordham for a three-game Atlantic 10 series at Houlihan Park. First pitch in the series is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday, followed by a 1 p.m. start on Saturday. Sunday's matchup will be played at 12 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.   
 
The Minutemen sit at 12-30 overall and 4-14 in the A-10, while the Rams hold a 17-31 overall record, including a 5-13 league record.  
 
Recap in a Minute
UMass earned a 10-6 win over Stonehill on Wednesday afternoon with the help of left-handed pitcher Scott LeSieur. LeSieur allowed only six hits and recorded a career high seven strikeouts over a career-best matching six innings, while the offense pounded out 16 total hits.      
 
Nolan Tichy and Kevin Skagerlind led the way with three hits apiece, including a home run by Tichy, followed by four other Minutemen with two hits. Tichy and Skagerlind both added two runs, while Tichy tallied four RBI on the day. Jack Peters recorded a career high three RBI and registered two hits and one run, marking the first hit and run of his career. Will MacLeanMike Gervasi and Jake Given totaled one RBI apiece, and six Minutemen contributed a run to UMass' total. Tichy, Gervasi and Justin Blumenthal recorded doubles, as Skagerlind and Carter Hanson had one stolen base each.
 
LeSieur picked up his second win in his third start for UMass, going six innings and allowing only six hits with no earned runs and no walks.  
 
All-Time vs. Fordham
The Minutemen hold a slight 34-32-1 advantage over the Rams in the all-time series. The two programs played their first contest in 1996, while they last met for a doubleheader on April 10, 2022 at Earl Lorden Field. UMass went on to sweep Fordham on the weekend, with the Minutemen claiming an 8-7 victory in the finale.

It's Going, Going, And It's Gone
Massachusetts has tallied 29 homeruns in 42 games played, from 10 Minutemen. Tichy leads the production with 10, followed closely by Hanson and MacLean with five. Steve Luttazi recorded three, so far, while Zack Zaetta, Gervasi, Sam Hill, Michael Toth, Ryan Coleman and Chris Pearsons have one apiece.
 
Hanson recorded his first long ball of the year in the first game of the season at Navy, before adding another in the game three of the UNC Asheville series. Coleman garnered his first career homer in game one at UNC Asheville, while Hill registered his first home run in game three of at UNC Asheville. Luttazi and MacLean had their first of the season in the Navy series in game three and game two, respectively. Gervasi had his first homer in game one of the Penn series, as Tichy garnered his first of the season in game three at Penn.
 
Zaetta registered his first homer in game one at Saint Joseph's, with Toth recording the first of his career at Quinnipiac. Pearsons had his first long ball of the season in game three against Rhode Island, recording the first grand slam of his career.
 
Tichy clubbed a career high two homers against Siena on April 26.

On A Roll…
Ten Minutemen are riding a current hitting streak, so far this season. Tichy and Blumenthal sit atop the leaderboard with 12, followed by MacLean and Pearsons with six and five games, repsectively. Gervasi and Luttazi hold a two-contest streak, while Hanson, Skagerlind, Jack Peters and Given have one apiece.
 
MacLean had a 16-game streak, which was the team's longest, before it came to an end. Tichy and Blumenthal hold the second longest at 12, currently.
 
MacLean is on a current 26-game reached base streak, as Tichy follows with 13. Blumenthal recorded 12 straight games with a reached base streak, while Pearsons and Hill have six. Hanson and Zaetta have five games each, with Toth recording four. Gervasi and Luttazi also have two games apiece, and Skagerlind, Peters and Given all hold a one-game reached base streak.
 
MacLean holds the teams' longest streak with a total of 26 games. Luttazi' (15) streak is the second longest, while both Zaetta (13) and Tichy (13) hold the team's third longest streak. MacLean holds the longest current streak, followed by Tichy.

[Multi]ple Games
UMass has a strong showing with multi-hit games, as the Minutemen have run their total of multi-hit performances to 93. MacLean leads the production with 15, which included three three-hit contests. Tichy and Luttazi both follow with 14 apiece, including two four-hit contests each from Tichy and Luttazi. Hanson and Zaetta registered 10 and nine, respectively, including a four-hit contest from Zaetta. Blumenthal totaled eight, while Hill and Toth have five contests each. Skagerlind and Gervasi tallied four apiece, and Pearsons tallied two. Jacob Sloss and Given contributed one each to UMass' multi-hit total.
 
Massachusetts has also contributed a total of 50 multi-RBI games, led by Tichy with 11, including a five-plus RBI game. Hanson and Luttazi follow with six each, which include a three-run contest each for the two Minutemen. MacLean has five, as Skagerlind, Blumethal, Gervasi and Toth all have three. Zaetta, Hill and Pearsons all garnered two multi-RBI contests, including a four RBI game for Pearsons. Peters, Kyle Hoog, Sloss and Given have tallied one game each, with a three-run contest from both Sloss and Peters.
 
Weekly Honors
After a stellar performance through five games, Tichy tabbed the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week on May 1, while also selected as one of 15 College Baseball News National Players of the Week.
 
Tichy posted a slash line of .591/.583/1.136 on a 4-1 week for the Minutemen. The junior tallied 13 hits in 22 at bats, including four home runs, 13 RBI, five runs, a walk and three stolen bases on the week. In the field, he totaled four putouts. Against Hartford (4/25), he went 3-for-5 with one homer and added two RBI and two runs on the day. Tichy's career day vs. Siena (4/26) saw a career-best two home runs, going 3-for-4 overall, and a career high six RBI, while registering two runs, a walk and a stolen base. In the weekend series at St. Bonaventure, he recorded two RBI and a career-high matching two stolen bases in game one, and went 3-for-4, which included his eighth home run of the season, with two RBI and a run during game three. 
 
Keeping it in the Family
The 2023 season marks the 57th straight campaign that Massachusetts baseball will have an alumnus of the Flagship campus as head coach. Sixth-year skipper Matt Reynolds is a double graduate (2005, '10G), and was preceded by fellow alumni Mike Stone '82 (1988-2017) and Dick Bergquist '57 (1967-87).

This is the second longest active streak across Division I baseball. Only BYU (62 consecutive seasons) has been led by an alum of its campus for a longer period.
 
On Deck
Massachusetts returns to Earl Lorden Field on Tuesday, May 16, to begin a four-game homestand to close out the regular season. The Minutemen take on the Stags at 4 p.m. on ESPN+.
