Tichy clubbed his 11th homer of the season, tying for ninth in program history in home runs in a single season. MacLean hit his third triple of the year to lead the team, while Hill leads the team in doubles, registering his ninth of the season on the afternoon.
On the mound, Sam Belliveau (2-1) picked up his second winning decision of the year for UMass, pitching a career-best six innings. He allowed no runs, five hits one walk and dealt three strikeouts, facing 22 batters. Renn Lints earned his first collegiate save, giving up three runs on five hits and struck out one in three complete innings.
After a scoreless first inning, UMass took the lead at 1-0 in the second. A one-out single put Blumenthal on base, before a two-out, RBI double from Hill allowed Blumenthal to come across the plate.
The Minutemen scored another run in the third to claim a 2-0 lead. Skagerlind led off the inning with a walk. MacLean advanced Skagerlind to third with a single through the right side. With one out, Luttazi laid down a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher, as Skagerlind crossed home plate.
Massachusetts extended its lead in the fifth frame with Tichy's 11th long ball of the season. After a ground out by Skagerlind, MacLean hit a single to right field. Tichy stepped up to the plate and cranked a shot over the left field fence to bring home MacLean, as well, to lead 4-0.
In the top of the seventh, MacLean tripled down the left field line with one out, before Luttazi hit a single down the left field line, knocking in MacLean as the Minutemen pulled ahead 5-0. Hanson recorded his sixth home run of the season with a two-run shot over the fence in right center field, making it a 7-0 game. Fordham scored two runs in the bottom half of the frame with UMass maintaining the 7-2 lead.
UMass added to its total in the eighth with a RBI single from Tichy with the bases loaded to bring home Jack Peters. Luttazi saw four balls while at the plate, forcing Skagerlind to touch the dish to make room for Luttazi on base to extend Massachusetts' lead to 9-2. The Rams tacked on another run in the bottom half of the inning, but the Minutemen held on and secured the 9-3 triumph.
